Young dancer Adelene Stanley joins Dr Stephanie Burridge to discuss Singapore Dance Theatre’s latest edition of the annual Masterpiece in Motion series, which was a triple-bill of ballet works of a kind that Stephanie describes as “contemporary dance en pointe“. It featured works by George Balanchine, Edwaard Liang and Marius Petipa.
Stephanie and Adelene discuss the curation of Masterpiece, the different sensibilities and aesthetics of the works, and the dynamics of the dancers across the pieces. Adelene, resident dancer at Frontier Danceland, also speaks of her personal connections to the Singapore Dance Theatre, and the work of Balanchine.

Masterpiece in Motion 2017, by the Singapore Dance Theatre, ran at Esplanade Theatre on 7 and 8 July 2017. It was a triple bill of ballet performances, featuring the company premiere of The Four Temperaments by George Balanchine, the world premiere of 13th Heaven by Edwaard Liang, and a restaging of Paquita, choreography after Marius Petipa.
Podcast Guest Adelene Stanley joined Frontier Danceland in April 2016. She was previously based in London & Europe for 5 years, graduated from Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance (UK) with First- Class Honours. She was an original cast member of INALA, in collaboration with 4-time Grammy Award winner Ladysmith Black Mambazo and dancers form The Royal Ballet and Rambert Dance Company. To date, Adelene has danced in original works by Mark Baldwin (UK), Sita Ostheimer (Germany), Gabrielle Nankivell & Luke Smiles (Australia), Tung I-Fen (Taiwan), to name a few; and has performed works of Crystal Pite, Paul Lightfoot, Robert Cohan, among others. In 2013, she won the Charlotte Kirkpatrick Award for her excellence in performance quality and stage presence. Adelene completed two summer intensives on scholarship with Nedelands Dans Theatre. She has conducted several dance workshops in Poland, London and Singapore. Apart from teaching, Adelene enjoys choreographing as well as collaborating with different creatives, and strives to share her craft globally.
