Art Sampoerna, 19 – 21 May 2017, The Atrium – Sampoerna Strategic Square, Jakarta
Together with the Mobiliari Group, Putera Sampoerna Foundation presents the inauguration of the biennale Art Sampoerna, an exhibition that presents the latest developments in contemporary art and the cultural fields in Indonesia. Titled ‘Flow into Now’ and curated by Rizki A. Zaelani, the exhibition tries to create connections between various art expressions, design explorations and experimental in architectural ideas. Sadako, 16 May 2017, Teater Kecil Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta
Sadako is a contemporary dance inspired by the story of Sadako, a 12 year-old Japanese girl who had Leukemia after the Hiroshima’s atomic bomb. Sadako wanted to make 1000 origami cranes to fulfill her wishes of being healed. Unfortunately she passed away after only 644 origami cranes. Her friends completed the work and buried her with all her origami cranes. Valentine Nagata-Ramos combined butoh, hip-hop and origami in this performance. He is also working with 5 hip-hop dancers on a workshop from 13-15 May. The devised choreography will be performed before the Sadako performance. Performance is free. The existence of different communities plays a big role in the development of contemporary art since they play a part in developing the thought process and work of emerging artists. Jogja Contemporary has a mission to provide incubation and collaboration space cause this meeting point between the curator, the alternative space, and the emerging artists is where the creation process becomes alive. In this exhibition, Jogja Contemporary works with like-minded space and galleries from Bandung, Solo, and Jogja to present their works. The first round of exhibition is exhibited now until 20 May 2017 and presenting works from Lir Space (Solo), World’s End (Bandung), Ruang Atas (Bandung) and other young emerging artists.
