The M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival, presented by T.H.E Dance Company, is in its 9 year. In this month’s dance podcast, Dr Stephanie Burridge chats with Zhuo Zihao, a founding member of the company. They discuss one of the highlights of this year’s festival, Borderline, a collaboration between the company and Muscle Mouth (New Zealand), and the evolution of the festival through the years.

Podcast Guest Zhuo Zihao received his contemporary dance training at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, both under scholarship. He has worked with various choreographers including Alberto Del-Saz, Robert Tannion, Charlotte-Boyd Christensen, and Cheng Tsung-Lung. He was also a resident artist with Odyssey Dance Theatre in Singapore. As a founding member of T.H.E Dance Company, he has performed in all of the company’s works since its establishment as well as featured his solo work at the CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival in 2010. In 2012, Zhuo was conferred the Young Artist Award (Dance) by Singapore’s National Arts Council. In 2016, Zhuo stepped down as a company dancer to become an independent artist and Associate Artist with T.H.E. He was co-commissioned to create a new work with Yarra Ileto for T.H.E Dance Company’s annual showcase in 2016, Helix, and is a founding member of the ongoing project Dance in Situ, an initiative that aims to bring dance out of the theatre and into the community, where works are created in relation to the landscape of the chosen sites.
