The COVID-19 Recovery Grant (CRG) provides temporary financial support to workers in lower- to middle-income households who are presently experiencing involuntary job loss, involuntary no-pay leave (NPL) or income loss due to the economic impact of COVID-19. [NEW] Call for Submissions: Epigram Books

This year, Epigram Books is excited to announce a new short story competition. Named the Storytel Epigram Horror Prize (SEHP), it focuses on short stories in the horror genre and provides another platform for Singaporean writers to showcase their talents. The SEHP is open to any citizen or permanent resident in Singapore, 16 years old and above. Those submitting manuscripts must ensure that they are between 4,000 to 7,000 words long and in the English language. New and original translations of non-English works can also be submitted.

The top entry will receive S$3,000, the second-best will receive S$2,000, the third-best entry will receive S$1,000. Eight other shortlisted entries will receive S$500 each. All eleven shortlisted entries will be published as an anthology by Epigram Books and adapted to audiobooks by Storytel earlier.

[NEW] Call for Submissions: Epigram Books Fiction Prize 2023

Established in 2015, the Epigram Books Fiction Prize (EBFP) was initiated to promote contemporary Singapore creative writing and reward excellence in Singapore literature. Since 2020, the EBFP has been open to writers from Southeast Asia.

Writers must be citizens and permanent residents of Southeast Asia. Each submission must be a full-length, original and unpublished manuscript of at least 40,000 words, written in the English language. Translated works are also allowed, although terms and conditions apply.

2022 will see the ten-year anniversary of the groundbreaking publication of Fish Eats Lion: New Singaporean Speculative Fiction. Editor Jason Erik Lundberg is seeking submissions for Fish Eats Lion Redux, to be published in late 2022 by Epigram Books, of new and innovative original short speculative fiction in English.

The story should be at least fulfil one of the following:

– your protagonist is Singaporean (i.e. born or naturalised in Singapore),

– your protagonist (Singaporean or otherwise) is living in Singapore at the time of your story (i.e. Singapore is the setting), OR

– your story’s themes are inspired by life in Singapore.

Stories are recommended to be between 3,000 and 5,000 words, with a maximum of 7,500 words.

Call for Submissions: Center for Khmer Studies: Khmer Language and Culture Program

*The program operation is dependent on the situation with Covid-19.

The CKS Khmer Language and Culture Program (KLCP) provides an opportunity for faculty, post-graduate researchers and undergraduates from U.S. universities to participate in an intensive eight-week study abroad program in Phnom Penh, and Siem Reap Cambodia.

The CKS Khmer Language and Culture Program aims to meet that demand and provide the opportunity for those with less Khmer language experience to benefit from study in-country. Like their ASK counterparts, participants in the CKS program will receive four hours of intensive language training during morning sessions. In the afternoon, they will take part, alongside the ASK program participants, in field trips and other cultural activities, including visits to local governmental and non-governmental institutions, where their language skills can be used in real-time situations.

Over the past 17 years, the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival has been a key event in Singapore’s arts and cultural calendar, presenting cutting edge, contemporary work curated around a specific theme chosen for the year. They had consciously selected themes that reflect what they regard to be urgent issues of the day. 

They want to hear what artists are concerned with in the world today, and how your artistic response is a call to arms, a healing process, or a road map to a different, better future. For the first time, the Fringe will not provide a curatorial theme to determine our programming. 

M1 Singapore Fringe Festival is looking for contemporary, cutting edge and socially engaged works that can be presented as live or digital performances and participatory events. They welcome proposals that use alternative models of presentations to include the disabled and immunocompromised, to encourage environmental sustainability, and/or to reduce air travel.

Call for Submissions: PR&TA Journal Issue 2

Arti-facts explore the boundaries between artistry and factuality in the creative artefact. They are looking for work that is concerned with the connections (or disjunctions) between memory and history; myth and fiction; witnessing and performance; old news and fake news.

They are particularly interested in submissions that dive into material and cultural archives to make use of artefacts, photographs and visual codes to examine the issue’s theme. They are also curious about the disjunctions and connections between historical arti-facts or records and oral or aural histories, where memory-traces and the ghosts of the past exert an uncanny presence. They also welcome critical work that examines questions of realism and historicity in the creative arts.

Open Call: National Theater and Concert Hall (NTCH): Asia Connection – Producers Camp 2022

The camp takes place online from August to September 2022.

As part of its response to developments, the NTCH (National Theater & Concert Hall, Taiwan) started the three-year Asia Connection: Producers Camp (ACPC) in 2021 with partner institutions Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, National Theater of Korea (South Korea), and Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre (Japan), bringing resources from across Asia together with producers, creatives, and private organisations with international visions to construct a new network for professional producers and help promote Asian co-productions.
