Top Picks of Indonesia art events in Bali, Bandung and Jakarta from 18-24 February 2019
To celebrate the TiTian Art Space’s 3rd Anniversary, the art space and organization presents EXPLORATION, a group exhibition that serves also as an initiative to encourage artists to break boundaries. EXPLORATION presents works by women, young artists, musicians, as well as works created using various new methods in the Balinese art environment such as Linocut and Cyanotype. Through these works, the art space also hopes to encourage everyone to break free from the boxes that limit us so we can invent and express ourselves. Goethe Institut Indonesia presents Experimental Turntablism with Ignaz Schick on 19 February 2019 in Bandung. Ignaz Schick is a composer, sound artist, and experimental turntablist who manipulates old vinyl records and then collages and de-contextualises them in playful ways. The concert starts at 7 PM at Spasial Bandung. The concert is free and no reservation is required. For more information on the concert, click here. In Jakarta, Indonesian creator and art maker Sasya Tranggono celebrates 30 years of art making with the exhibition Cinta Untuk Indonesia. In this exhibition, Sasya Tranggono creates life-size Wayang Golek installations that were created with human body proportion. Through this exhibition, Sasya aims to find other dimensions from Wayang Golek (Indonesian rod puppets) that has been been her source of inspiration. This exhibition is curated by Jim Supangkat and runs until 10 March 2019 at Galeri Nasional Indonesia. For more information on the exhibition, click here.
This year, Indonesia’s classic 90s film Kuldesak celebrated its 20-year anniversary. Kuldesak is a film by 4 of Indonesia’s talented directors: Nan T. Achnas, Riri Riza, Rizal Mantovani, and Mira Lesmana. These 4 directors tell 4 stories of the teenage years that are filled with hope, dreams, obsessions and problems.
