AUDITION NOTICE: BE A PART OF CHINATOWN CROSSINGS 2019
Do you have/know of a child who’d like to be a part of Chinatown Crossings 2019?
Chinatown Crossings is a critically acclaimed promenade theatre written by playwright, Jean Tay and directed by Drama Box’s Associate Artistic Director, Koh Hui Ling.
In Chinatown Crossings, we meet Kunalan, an Indian man in his 40s who grew up in a Chinatown shophouse in the 1960s and 70s. As we follow him through the streets of Chinatown and the pathways of his memories, we unravel the story of unexpected friendships and the family that he finds in Ngau Cheh Shui (Cantonese for Bullock-Cart Water). We track the story of his evolving friendship with Ting Ting, his feisty neighbour, as well as his relationship with Ting Ting’s Cantonese majie, Fong Cheh, who becomes a surrogate mother to him during their growing up years.
This immersive theatrical tour will bring the audience from the back alleys of busy Smith and Trengganu Streets to the quieter area of Keong Saik. As the audience travels across a series of memory touchstones (or stations) scattered across the neighbourhood, the ghosts of Chinatown’s past will be evoked through different elements like chalk, shadow, echoes, paper, thread, cloth, or hair.
Chinatown Crossings is looking for 1 Chinese girl to be part of the cast. For requirements and further details, click here.
