Malam Sayu Berpuisi: #NewYearNewMe, at klpac, 31 Dec, 8:30pm

A night of poetry beneath the banyan tree. No sound systems available, and the performance takes place outdoors, so be prepared for the weather (umbrella, sensible shoes, mosquito repellant, excellent hearing). This edition celebrate’s the wave of resolutions coming in the new year with the theme #NewYearNewMe! You are invited to attend dressed in fitness clothes.

Dispersing Sublime: Towards a Bacterial Landscape, at Piyadasa Gallery (University of Malaya), 2 Jan–28 Feb, by appointment 11am–5pm (Mon–Fri)

What is creative will? What happens when artistic agency is shared between artist and bacteria? Artist Nur Amira’s bio-art relies on controlling the environment of bacteria to produce visual form over time, for new ways to see landscapes. Besides bacteria, the artist also collaborates with scientists, complicating the idea of authorship in research.

Sexuality In Art: Stigmas, Taboos and Transgressions, at National Art Gallery, 5 Jan, 1–3pm

A talk presented by Germaine Chong, discussing examples of how different artists approach the topic of sex and sexuality in the broader ecosystem of art practices. There will be an open dialogue session in the last half hour.

Masih Segan, at GMBB, 5–10 Jan

Masih Segan (Still Shy) is an exhibition of watercolour paintings by Nadhir Nor, exploring the themes of passivity, vulnerability and quietness. Artist talk and exhibition walkthrough is available on 5th Jan (Saturday) at 2pm.

Bunnies! The Secret Hideout’s 5th Collective Show Launch Party, at AweGallery, 1–13 Jan, 11am–10pm

A multidisciplinary group show featuring a diversity of artists across. paintings, installation, sculpture, graffiti, and performances. Each artist will showcase a new bunny inspired collaborative piece. Opening party will start at 6pm of 5th Jan, and go on late into the night, featuring live music and special performances.

Mystery Tapes ft. Azmyl Yunor, at Merdekarya, 2 Jan, 9:30pm

Singer-songwriter Zack Yusof’s band, Mystery Tapes, will play with folk singer-songwriter Azmyl Yunor in Merdekarya. Cover charge of RM20. There will be open mic performances before the headline act takes the stage. If you are keen to perform, register here.
