Top Picks of Indonesia art events in Bali and Jakarta from 28 October – 4 November 2018
Sponsored by UNESCO, Borobudur Under the Full Moon is a photography exhibition by Caroline and Hughes Dubois. This exhibition showcases the first photos of Borobudur’s reliefs taken under the moonlight in their actual size. To capture the details of the relief, Caroline and Hughes worked over a period of 4 years to photograph the relief carvings at 450 millions pixels per photo. Borobudur Under the Full Moon is exhibited at the Oracle Gallery in Ubud Bali until 10 November. The exhibition celebrates the launch of the accompanying art book. DenPasar 2018 collaborates with Rumah Sanur to present an exhibition and a live drawing session by Komunitas Tepi Barat. Tepi Barat is a drawing community that draws live models with different modes of drawing while using traditional and technical skills. Their exhibition Memberi Kehidupan di Secarik Kertas (Giving Life on a Piece of Paper) opens on Thursday, 1 November 2018, at 6 PM. On Sunday, 4 November, Komunitas Tepi Barat hosts a live drawing session with a model. Bring your drawing materials and join them for an afternoon of drawing. In Jakarta, Bentara Budaya Jakarta is bringing back Sajak Selasa (Poetry Tuesday) this Tuesday with a theme of “Bahasa, Pemuda, & Bangsa” (language, youth, and nation). This Open Mic night invites all to share their poems along with other performers. There will also be a poetry and music collaboration with Jibal Windiaz and Teater Jerit. Pekan Komponis Indonesia (Indonesia Composer Week) is happening this week. The curatorial committee of the composer week had selected 11 composers who will showcase their works at Komunitas Salihara in Jakarta. For each day between 2-4 November, there will be a composition workshop or discussion at 3 PM and a concert from 4 of the composers at 8 PM.
