Islamic Art Public Lecture, Komunitas Salihara Black Box Theatre, 24 Jan, 7:00 PM

Komunitas Salihara, supported by Institut Francaise Indonesia, presents an Islamic Art public lecture featuring Yannick Lintz, Director of Islamic Art Department at Louvre Museum, Paris. La Nuit Des Idees – Malam Pedalangan, Auditorium IFI Thamrin, 26 Jan, 6-10 PM

La Nuit Des Idees is a sharing night by various experts where audience can be involved in discussions and see the works of these experts. This year, Insititut Francaise Indonesia is bringing a theme of “Malam Pedalangan”, where writer, sociologists, film directors, a Dalang, and a few others will share their stories through discussions, film, music, and a wayang performance. And just as a traditional wayang performance, the audience are free to come and go as they wish. For more information and the list of “dalangs” invovled, click here.

Asa Bahasa Sinema – Bentara Putar Film, Bentara Budaya Jakarta, 27 January 2017, 6:30 PM

Bentara Budaya Jakarta’s first film screening is presented with some audience concerns of not understanding films after watching them. Two films will be screened: Nokas, a documentary of the life of a Timorese man, Nokas and Sunya, a dance film fiction of the lives of 2 individuals and their grandparent. In between the screening of the 2 films, there will be a discussion on the cinematography of the films, audience interpretation of the symbolism in the films, the filmmakers’ intention, and how to bridge the two.
