What people consider as their own ‘backyard’ varied from person to person. However, there’s always some kind of a connection to the space we live in, and the space is never simply a space. Don’t miss this rare performance of a contemporary wayang! ‘Wayang Bocor’ is a term used to refer to a creation of conemporary wayang that is based on traditional wayang kulit. This Wayang Bocor performance titled Semelah (God Bliss) is created and directed by Gunawan Maryanto and has been previously presented at 3 cities in the United States. It’s coming to Jakarta this week after Yogyakarta and Riau. Semelah has 2 performances in Jakarta. The performance at @America on 14 July is free but only for limited seating. Kami Tidak Seragam is a celebration of 17 years of Sanggar Anak Alam or SALAM. SALAM is an organization that is created to provide a more holistic experience of education for children. SALAM create activities under the theme of a ‘school of life’, providing a space for children to experiment and learn about the subtler things in life, such as culture, health, environment, and social values. To celebrate its 17 years anniversary, SALAM presents Kami Tidak Seragam, an exhibition and performance to express and share a retrospective of the organization’s works. Exhibition is free and starts at 5 PM on 22 July at Gedung Societet. The performance will be at 7:30 PM with a ticket price of IDR 30,000. SURABAYA

Short Export – Made in Germany 2016, 19 July 2017, 7 PM, Wisma Jerman, Surabaya

Goethe Institut Germany presents a screening of a selection of German Short Films that come from the 11th year of a German French collaborative film project. The films selected this year ranging vastly from bizarre, funny, and warm-hearted. Goethe Institut, Robert Bosch Cultural Managers and their partners screen these films all over the world.
