Top Picks of Indonesia art events in Bali, Bandung and Jakarta from 12 – 18 November 2018
If you’re in Bali, swing by the exhibition “Efek Samping” part of the Futuwonder Project: Masa Subur. The Masa Subur project is an interdisciplinary project that involves women artists in Indonesia. In this particular one, the artists selected are creating work under the theme “Efek Samping” or side effect, which refers to the emotional nature that is associated to women and is often seen as an imposed limitation that prevents the women artist’s works to expand beyond their current state. “Efek Samping” exhibition invited 4 female artists and selected 21 other female artists to showcase their works. “Efek Samping” is exhibited at Karja Art Space in Ubud, Bali. In Bandung, on the 15th and 17th of November, come to SemAta Gallery to learn how to make your own caricature and learn some painting techniques from Tennessee Caroline. This workshop is open for Teen and Adult and there is a small fee of IDR 150,000 that will cover the art materials and snack. To sign up for the workshop, contact Suni at +62 818 0906 0959. The Indonesia edition of the 2018 UOB Painting of the year was announced last week. All the selected paintings are also exhibited at Galeri Nasional Indonesia until the 19th of November 2018. If you come on Friday, the 16th of November 2018, you can join a collaborative painting workshop by a finalist of the UOB Painting of the Year 2018. Part of the Indonesian Dance Festival 2018, the Empu Sendok Art Station (ESAS) in Jakarta presents the exhibtion “Padmini Chettur: The Rigorous Practice of Freedom”. In one of her writings, Padmini Chettur wrote that the body is the memory archive of a dance. Not intending to replace the experience of watching a performance, “The Rigorous Practice of Freedom” showcases various archives of the body, specifically to trace the trajectory of a choreographic body in a timespan of 20 years. “The Rigorous Practice of Freedom” is open until 23 November 2018. Come and be part of a 5-day workshop that is also a site-specific creation of the last IDEAL PARADISE. Claudia Bosse and Günther Auer, together with various Indonesian artists, will create a Jakarta-specific adaptation of the last IDEAL PARADISE. the last IDEAL PARADISE is an installation, choreography, performance, as well as an accumulation of research materials that combine today’s political situation with history, rites, and myths.
