[Singapore] Sing Lit Station HALP Fund

The HALP Fund is a discretionary fund used by Sing Lit Station to support literary arts practitioners in the creation and presentation of their work in any form. It also aims to provide subsistence funds during tough times. The maximum quantum will be $500 per application. Applications will be held year-round until 31 March 2021 or until funds are fully disbursed, whichever comes first.

[Singapore] SkillsFuture Top-Up

Adult Singaporeans aged 25 and above will receive a one-off $500 SkillsFuture Credit top-up. Eligible individuals can start using the additional credit from 1 October 2020. Singaporeans aged 40 to 60 will receive a special $500 SkillsFuture Credit top-up. This will be over and above the $500 SkillsFuture Credit top-up for Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above. From 1 October 2020, this top-up can be used on all SkillsFuture Credit-eligible courses, and will expire on 31 Dec 2025.

All Self-Employed Persons will be entitled to between $7.50-$11 an hour of training allowance for SkillsFuture series courses and selected sector-specific training programmes. This will be administered by NTUC.

Open Call: Close-up on Producing: Singapore – Berlin

Close-up on Producing: Singapore – Berlin, a 5–day hands-on producers’ workshop, is set in motion to enhance personal exchange and to encourage long-lasting collaborations and partnerships between practitioners in Southeast Asia and Europe. Taking place during the 72nd Berlin Film Festival, Close-up on Producing: Singapore – Berlin will be led by Peter Rommel, one of Germany’s most prolific and successful independent producers.

This specially–crafted closed-door workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to meet and network with key people from the industry.

The workshop is intended for emerging Singapore-based producers working in the industry, who have produced at least one feature film and who wish to expand their networks and knowledge of producing with and in Europe. This programme will provide participants access to Rommel’s extensive production expertise and wide personal networks, as well as to 72nd Berlinale programmes.

Open Call: Culture | Smart City Connections: Open Call

Cities are changing at an extraordinary pace. In particular, the impact and influence of the digital age are vastly stronger today, where the term ‘smart city’ has captured the imagination of many across the globe, including urban planners, policy makers, artists and civic activists.

This Open Call uses the optic of the “smart city” to critically explore the shifting and increasingly complex relations between culture and technology in urban landscapes.This under-explored parallel consideration of culture and technology offer unique ways for a deeper understanding of emergent modalities of culture, creativity and the city.

Entries can be in a format of the participant’s choice, and may be in the form of, but not limited to: Short text, digital / interactive art, video / audio documentation, photography and moving images, performances, sound art, transmedia storytelling, literary works from poems to short fiction, thought pieces / short essays / critical responses.

Incubation Programme: Scarlet Mela Festival (SMFA)

The Scarlet Mela Festival (SMFA) is a platform to celebrate, facilitate and incubate young and upcoming independent traditional arts practitioners. The aim of the festival is to gather a community of critical arts practitioners who value tradition and are excited to push boundaries and want to be the change-makers for the next generation.

The first iteration of SMFA focuses on an incubation programme for the dance sector in traditional arts, encompassing all cultural dance forms. This programme is an 8 week-long process from Jan-Mar 2022 for selected applicants. The programme is targeted at independent traditional arts practitioners between the ages of 21-35 who are Self-Employed Persons (SEPs).

Artist Residency Call: Aichi University of the Arts 

Aichi University of the Arts invites artists from around the world to the university through an artist-in-residence programme with the goal of promoting collaboration in education and artistic activities. By inviting artists, (including artist groups) who are actively engaged in artistic endeavours, the university aims to enhance exchanges among artists, faculty members and students, and thereby adds some fresh air to the university as an education and research hub with an active atmosphere.

Focus area: Fine Arts (painting, sculpture, installation, print making, design, photography, film, etc.)

One resident artist or artists group will be selected for a residency lasting 30-100 days, and taking place in the period from June 1, 2022 – December 16, 2022. The selected artist/s will be provided with living and working space, travel costs, production and living expenses.

Open Call: Asia Art Archive | Artist Exercises

Asia Art Archive announces an Open Call for artist-educators based in Asia, as part of a project to develop creative exercises for their communities of learners. Participants will draw inspiration from AAA’s collections, which are freely accessible online, and contain a wide range of materials on recent art histories of the region.

The intention of this programme is to enable cross-cultural referencing between the multiple contexts and histories of the region, where, for instance, a teacher from Sri Lanka can connect to an archival photograph from Hong Kong, a student in Singapore can relate to a document on craft from Pakistan, and a module on gender and art in Nepal can reference a women-led biennale in Thailand.

The selected group of artist-educators will receive an honorarium of HK$10,000, and a budget to test their exercise with their group of learners onsite or online. At the end of the programme, we will feature the new exercises on AAA’s website as part of our Educator’s Resources so that they will be accessible for teachers and learners in the long run.

Call for Submissions: FISH EATS LION REDUX

2022 will see the ten-year anniversary of the groundbreaking publication of Fish Eats Lion: New Singaporean Speculative Fiction. Editor Jason Erik Lundberg is seeking submissions for Fish Eats Lion Redux, to be published in late 2022 by Epigram Books, of new and innovative original short speculative fiction in English.

The story should be at least fulfil one of the following:

– your protagonist is Singaporean (i.e. born or naturalised in Singapore),
– your protagonist (Singaporean or otherwise) is living in Singapore at the time of your story (i.e. Singapore is the setting), OR
– your story’s themes are inspired by life in Singapore.

Stories are recommended to be between 3,000 and 5,000 words, with a maximum of 7,500 words.

SCCC: Open Call for Programming Ideas

As part of the SCCC’s aim to promote Chinese Singaporean art and culture, it is inviting Singapore-based artists, organisations and community partners to submit their proposals for programmes to be held at our centre. The proposed projects could be presented in any format and need not be limited to exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, talks, conferences, performances, demonstrations, film screenings or educational courses.

SCCC: Chinese Arts and Culture Research Grant

The Chinese Arts and Culture Research Grant is an initiative introduced by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre in 2018. Its goal is to fund research projects related to Chinese visual arts, performing arts, culture and impact, and/or contribution of these Chinese visual arts and performing arts on Chinese identity and culture in Singapore.

This grant aims to engage and encourage local institutes of higher learnings, think-tanks and academics to:

– Document and conduct research on different aspects of Singapore’s Chinese arts and culture that are of interest to SCCC
– Strengthen SCCC’s arts and culture resources and research capabilities

SCCC: Publication Grant

The objective of the Publication Grant is to disseminate research on Chinese Singapore culture conducted by institutes of higher learning, think-tanks, researchers and academics. This Grant will support publications in the following areas of research: Chinese visual arts, Chinese performing arts, Chinese culture, and Chinese Singaporean identity.

The maximum grant quantum for the project is 50% of the project funding subject to a cap of S$50,000 per project.
