A second performance from the Djakarta Teater Platform program, OCTOPUS by Teater Poros began as a research by Teater Poros actors on violence towards women. The research focuses on the history of violence in the Senen area in Central Jakarta and aims to understand violence, its source and triggers. Octopus is performed on 14 and 15 August 2017 at 8 PM. Komunitas Salihara invites everyone to join a discussion on Indonesian literature in English. This discussion aims to paints a better picture of Indonesian literature landscape to both Indonesians and foreigners. Ode Agustus is an event to celebrate Indonesia’s independence in the month of August, through various national and folk songs from various parts of Indonesia. These songs remind listeners of the diversity of this country and the wealth that Indonesia have through the diverse people and produce from the land. Ode Bulan Agustus also aims to remind the people of Indonesia to celebrate these diversities and differences, instead of attempting to create uniformity among the different groups. The Solo Ode Bulan Agustus will present choirs from various universities, colleges, and vocal group from Solo and its surrounding area. If you’re a high school student and enjoy reading, join this literature critic contest! Reading novels gives a richer psychology and perspectives in understanding humans’ problems in this world. In celebration of Indonesia’s National Education Day, Komunitas Salihara invites high school students to join the competition by comparing an Indonesian novel (Bukan Pasar Malam by Pramoedya Ananta Toer) to a foreign novel from Mexico (Pedro Paramo by Juan Rulfo).
