Amangkurat is a piece of theatre that combines the words of Goenawan Mohamad and the direction of Iswadi Pratama to tell the story of power and greed that result in nothing but pain. Amangkurat is set in the old Mataram kingdom under the rule of King Amangkurat I. Amangkurat features Slamet Rahardjo Djarot, Eduard Manalu, and others. Balungan is a meeting point of two styles of music, where in this meeting point, despite the differences, both sides found similarities in how they play their music. This meeting point is expressed in 12 original repertoires that will be presented at IFI LIP Auditorium on 26 July 2017 at 7:30 PM. The 29th Yogyakarta Art Festival returns this year with a theme of Umbar Mak Byarr!. In the Javanese language, the word Umbar means Release. And Umbar Mak Byarr simply means a great big release. This year’s art festival wants to look at human’s lives that despite their hectic lives still need rest. With that idea, the festival aim to present its activities that include cinema, theatre, and exhibition as places well the public can find their ‘rests’.
