Murni in Bahasa Indonesia translates as “purity”. In this 8th exhibition of Indonesian Contemporary Art and Design (ICAD), the word Murni is asked as a question for audience to think about the idea of “essentialism” in art and design. ICAD is the first and the only exhibition that initiated collaboration of design, art, technology, entertainment, and hospitality industry. It is also held to share and explore the richness of Indonesia’s wisdom in a contemporary way. Murni? is held from now until 15 of November 2017 at grandkemang Hotel Jakarta. Telar Sonorus is a performance that was created from an attraction and love towards ethnic music, as well as a desire to connect different cultures and languages. Telar Sonorus is a collaboration between Venezuelan singer Karim Camprovin and Indonesian musician Nur Kholis Sumardi. Through Telar Sonorus they develop a dialogue between Indonesian and Venezuelan music. This performance is free. Pameran Fotografi Shammow’el Rama Surya & Klavdij Sluban, Now – 19 November 2017, NuArt Sculpture Park, Bandung
Institut Francais d’Indonesie presents a photography exhibition of 2 photographers who go beyond the literal and use photography as a tool to position the self within different realities. This exhibition was also organised in Bandung as an invitation for visitors to take a breather from the material developments happening in the city by going to a quiet space inwards as they journey through the Klavdij Sluban’s and Rama Surya’s photos. Shadow Dance III, 28 October 2017, 6:30 PM, Bentara Budaya Bali
Shadow Dance III is the third in a series of solo exhibitions by mixed media artist Nyoman Erawan. The first 2 of the series were exhibited at Art Space Jakarta and Art Stage Jakarta earlier this year. Erawan’s works explores all layers of human’s lives and are expressed as poetic responses to the microcosm and macrocosm of the Universe. The works form a Shadow Dance that also represents unseen forces such as feelings and undying creativity. For the opening of his exhibition, Erawan will perform his interpretation of Putu Wijaya’s Dasa Muka monolog. The opening performance will take place on 28 October 2017 at 6:30 PM.
