Ketubuhan Bissu, 17 October 2017, 3-5:30 PM, Ruang Gong, PKKH UGM, Yogyakarta
Kalanari Art Theatre’s discussion forum, also known as temen ngobrol, invites Shinta Febriany to share and discuss Makassar’s 5th gender, Bissu. The people of South Sulawesi believe that a Bissu has an ability to connect to the spiritual realm. And in the ritual of Ma’Giri, a Bissu develops an ability to not get the skin pierced by a traditional dagger. Shinta Febriany aims to chat about the contribution of such traditional ritual to our current art practice, especially the technique behind ketubuhan, or that ability of the skin to become impenetrable, and how that can affect the theatre creation process. This casual discussion is free and open to all. For more information, contact Dinu at +62 899 8984 058 or visit Kalanari Theatre’s Instagram account here.
