ASIAN ARTS MEDIA ROUNDTABLE 2021
OPEN CALL
The Asian Arts Media Roundtable (AAMR) is back, after a successful run in 2019. ArtsEquator is proud to be working with SIFA to present AAMR@SIFA2021, a digital programme bringing together international arts writers, critics and journalists to learn, share and converse. AAMR@SIFA2021 runs from 15 May – 12 June 2021.
What does the work of a critic look like as performances and festivals are reimagined for the future? This is an important thrust of AAMR@SIFA2021, and will be examined and unpacked through discussions, presentations and watch parties of shows.
This year’s programme launches with the inaugural Master Conversations series, focusing on production and technical theatre. These four in-depth presentations, led by master technical theatre practitioners, are designed to give critics insights into and knowledge in the often under-discussed aspects of performance-making.
Participants will engage closely with SIFA 2021’s programming, attending shows both in-person (for Singapore-based participants), and online via digital watch parties. Through four public critics-led post-show discussions known as Critics Live!, participants will, amongst others, explore the role of criticism in emerging hybrid performance spaces.
AAMR@SIFA2021 runs from 15 May – 12 June 2021, bridging the festival programming offered both in-venue and online. The main events of the AAMR take place on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. See the programme schedule here.
The programme is open to arts writers, critics, and arts journalists. All programmes will be held in English, with possibilities for translation support. To apply, please submit your application here by 26 April 2021, 2359 (GMT +8).
The four Critics Live! sessions – one of which will be held in-venue and three online – will be open to members of the public via registration. Details to be released soon.
