After her boyfriend dumps her for being depressed, Julia (Kimberley Kiew), an actor, turns up unannounced at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, hellbent on understudying their perfect lives.
She appropriates Hemingway’s method of writing Shakespeare’s lines by hand to get a sense of genius, unrelentingly copying Melanie (Kimberly Chan) and John (Steven Murphy) to “become” them. In so doing, she sets off a chain reaction leading to an inevitable implosion.
Trouble Came is loaded with delicious irony, addressing just how far we’ll go to keep up with the book covers of other people’s lives. In an age where obsessively curated images have driven FOMO to anxiety and depression-causing levels, Trouble Came is a toast to simply being okay who you are.
Joining a cast led by Kimberley Kiew, Kimberly Chan and Steven Murphy are the comedic talents of Monil SJ (Patel), Jon Cancio (Cal) and Hamza Qaiser (Man at gym).
