Home / 家 — A Sharing of Intercultural Performance Processes by Macarena Losada and Jacklyn Kuah
July 18 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
FreeJoin us at ITI for an exclusive sharing session about the creative process of Home / 家 / La ropa sucia se lava / À la maison, a work-in-progress, cross-cultural performance project led by Macarena Losada. The event features a showcase of audiovisual materials and a discussion of ideas that shape the work, presented by artist-scholars Losada and Jacklyn Kuah.
Key ideas and takeaways:
-
Cultural Contact Zones — Where the narratives of cities and biographical material are intertwined
-
Translation for the Stage — Contribution to the intercultural process by expanding meanings and representations of the text, originally in English, into Chinese and Spanish
-
Embodiment — In relation to the “Body as Territory” theory, drawing upon the idea that the “female body is an extension of the territory inhabited”, wherein history and suffering are reflected in our physical narratives
About the work:
Home / 家 / La ropa sucia se lava / À la maison is an ongoing devising process that encompasses collaborative writing, remote rehearsals, and in-person staging processes. It unfolds as a collaborative effort uniting creators from Chile, France, and Singapore. The work explores the intersections of women from diverse cultures and the sense of cultural identity. The central conflict emerges as the character grapples with aligning familial beliefs and the expectations of assimilating into a foreign culture. It also delves into themes of gender equality, cultural identity, and humanity, positioned within self-fiction and physical theatre.
