Commemorative Series: Scenes by The Unskilled Boy

June 18 - July 31

Free

Nineteen-year-old autistic artist Alex Lim, also known as The Unskilled Boy, has released his latest series, Scenes, to mark the creation of his 500th painting since he began his professional journey four years ago.

Scenes features a mixed-media collection of acrylic paints, impasto, acrylic pens and ink. The still life and figurative series captures an array of backdrops, depicting vibrant outdoor scenes, and intimate indoor moments within the home. The outdoor figurative paintings, for example, brim with life, highlighting the park, pool, beach and even MRT scenes – all with a touch of quirkiness and humour. In contrast, the indoor scenes offer a glimpse into the cozy, life inside the home, portraying warm, personal spaces and domestic activities.

Since Alex began his professional artistic journey at 15, he has produced 500 paintings, spanning 10 special series, four exhibitions, and commissioned works from brands and individual buyers. The artist is an award winner at Shining HeARTS 2023, organised by Northeast CDC. Alex was one of the Individual Artists at the fourth edition of Shaping Hearts art festival last year. Later this year, the teen will exhibit five new paintings at the same festival.

With Scenes, Alex draws his inspiration from everyday life. His keen observations of the outdoor scenes capture the humour and moments of emotion found in both bustling public areas and quiet places of the home. Each painting comes with an option of four sizes – 26 x 21cm (standard size of $82 with free delivery), special orders in 40 x 50cm, 60 x 90cm, and 60 x 121cm. Buyers will get a serialised and signed 500th Painting Artist Certificate for each painting.
