30 Lives

Focusing on the contemporary experience and condition of play and gaming, MCAD Manila’s exhibit 30 Lives gathers works by Harun Farocki, Lu Yang, Heecheon Kim, Ikoy Ricio, and Miguel Inumerable, alongside student-developed games under the Interactive Entertainment and Multimedia Computing program of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Referencing the code used to get more lives in the Konami console game, it highlights the similarities and differences between the freedom of play and the structure of games, the diversions as fleeting alternative realities these provide, and its creation of spaces for critique and subversion.
