Balai Seni Negara will held the 2023 Contemporary Young Talent Competition Awards Ceremony on 3rd MARCH 2024 (Sunday), a prestigious competition organized by Balai Seni Negara that is a platform to raise young talents in contemporary art. The ceremony was officiated by YBRS. Encik Mohd Yusri Bin Mohd Yusoff, Deputy Secretary General (Culture) at Menara Condong Teluk Intan, Perak.

The Contemporary Young Talent Competition (BMS) is organized biannually and is open to young artists aged 35 and under. BMS is now an important pillar in promoting the development of young contemporary art talents since it was organized in 1974. In this edition, this competition received a total of 68 initial entries. A total of 47 participants made it to the judging stage and only 15 participants qualified for the final stage.

BMS this year maintains the theme of the previous edition which is ‘Seni di Lokasi’, which invites young local artists to approach nature and interact with the community. This theme is seen to be able to be a platform for them to project ideas and creativity in different locations in addition to providing a challenge in conveying the message through the artworks produced.

The participants are judged by a jury panel consisting of artists and art experts. The 2023 Contemporary Young Talent winner was awarded through the Main Award with cash worth RM 30,000.00 while there were four winners selected to receive the Jury Award with cash amounting to RM 15,000.00. In addition, the 10 participants with the highest votes were also selected for Visitors’ Choice (Online) and Visitors’ Choice (On Location), each receiving cash worth RM1,000.00

The National Art Gallery, which acts as the main art center in Malaysia, is always celebrating local artists by supporting and promoting their artworks. Therefore, the National Art Gallery will continue to organize prestigious competitions like this as well as hold various activities and art programs in the future in the hope that the country’s contemporary visual art industry will always grow.

The event was also attended YBrs. Encik Saidi Bin Haji Shaari, Hilir Perak District Officer, YBrs. Encik Amerrudin Ahmad, Director General of the National Art Gallery, MOTAC senior officers, departments, and agencies.
