TJIS Vol. 26: The Pre-Poetry Month Party, at InTun Nation, 28 Mar, 8pm
The Jack-It Series ramps up events for the coming poetry month with a pre-celebration. The featured act of the day is spoken word poet Chloe Ling. Opening act is rapper MC Stiff. Keep an eye out for the open mic performers.

David Glass’ TEMPEST, at klpac, 28–31 Mar
Shakespeare’s The Tempest is reimagined by director David Glass, founder of Devised and Applied Theatre Movement. The story follows scientist Prospero and his daughter Miranda in the last days of humanity. Performers include Lim Soon Heng, Lee Swee Keong, Nikki Basharudin and more.

Thomas Barker: Indonesia’s New Transnational Cinema, at Malaysia Design Archive, 28 Mar, 8:30pm–10:30pm
Film academic Thomas Barker discusses the rise of Indonesia’s film industry in the past two decades, and global factors that led international film business to Indonesia. The talk traces how Indonesia features in a new form of cinematic trans-nationalisation and its effect on the local industry.

Dames & Dimes The Musical, at North Hall Theatre @ Cempaka Cheras, 29–31 Mar & 5–7 Apr, 7:30–10pm
An original new musical, with music and lyrics by the award-winning composer Nick Choo. The story takes place in 1934, where two young girls follow their dreams to become Broadway stars in New York.

MAP Fest 2019, at Publika, 30 Mar – 14 Apr
This 9th annual arts and cultural festival takes place over 3 weekends in Publika, with a variety of arts and cultural activities. In the first week, check out the Malaysian Emerging Artists Awards Exhibition, in Black and White Box.
You can join the Earth hour celebrations with many performances on Saturday — including performances by Kwang Tung Dance Company and Orang-Orang Drum. Sunday night features the Singer-Songwriter Round #1 with performances by Anna Chong, Melina William, Reza Salleh and Zalila Lee.

Wayang Kulit in the Dark, at The School, 30 Mar, 8pm
The duo behind Fusion Wayang Kulit, known for their Peperangan Bintang take on Star Wars, have something new up their sleeves. A shadow puppet theatre show featuring character designs inspired by Batman. Ksatria Kelimunan has to deal with criminal mastermind Joker stealing something important from the museum. This performance takes place during Earth Hour.

ILHAM Public Lecture: Marian Pastor Roces, at ILHAM Gallery, 30 Mar, 3–5pm
The sixth speaker in ILHAM’s public lecture series shares her curatorial approach to designing the Bangsamoro Museum, a space designed to celebrate the resilience of Filipino Muslims as a people and community. She will also describe the political context in which the process takes place.

Celebrating Indigenous Women, at Centre for Malaysian Indigenous Studies, 30 Mar, 10:30am–6:30pm
In conjunction with International Women’s Day, two panel discussions highlight the importance of indigenous women in bringing change to their communities. The first addresses the conservation of intangible knowledge and strategies to sustain their heritage and transform it into a source of income. In the second, prominent indigenous activists discuss their strategies and challenges to secure land rights.

3rd Klang Heritage and Culture Walk, in Klang, 30 Mar, 9am–12pm
This heritage and cultural walk covers historical buildings, like a fire station over a century old, and Gedung Abdullah warehouse with stories of tin mining and 19th century Selangor Civil War, the Royal Gallery and more. There will also be foods to experience, and interesting new stories like how Klang got its name.

March 2019 Readings, at 67 Jalan Tempinis Satu, 30 Mar, 3:30pm–6pm
This long-running monthly reading group is a great way to meet authors and get to know their works. In this edition, authors include Noreen Muhammad Darma, Azrina Abdul Karim, VS Lai, Deborah Augustin, Amin Kamrani and Lawrence Pettener, who will also be emceeing.
