Tales of Apocalypse Exhibition by Latif Maulan, at Galeri Titikmerah, 22–31 Dec

An exhibition of recent artworks by contemporary self-taught artist Latif Maulan, in the artist-run space Galeri Titikmerah in Publika. A selection of 9 paintings of drenched portrait subjects. Admission is free.

Migration: A Shared Life, at Ruang by Think City, 16–30 Dec (closed on Mondays), 12–5pm

A celebration of International Migrants Day by Tenaganita, in collaboration with migrant communities and the support of Think City. Art enthusiasts are invited to respond to the artwork created by human trafficking supporters, and these responses will also be displayed at the exhibition. The artworks are also available for sale through a silent auction, and funds will go towards the organisation’s shelter for survivors of human trafficking.

Forum Teater Yeop, at klpac, 27–30 Dec

A tribute to the late National Laureate and theatre pioneer Dato’ Syed Alwi Syed Hassan. This will showcase three of the author’s notable works —Alang Rentak Seribu (1973), Tok Perak (1974) and Going North (1980) — in forum theater style, with a twist to tie it in with contemporary issues. Tickets are RM60 (RM50 concessions).

Chaos in Rumah Api, at Rumah Api, 28–3o Dec

Close the year with chaos in inclusive punk space Rumah Api. This series has been running for a few years now and features a long list of performances. Be prepared to mosh. Admission is RM50 for all days, or RM25 per day.

WIDYA Showcase, at Ruang Irama, 28–29 Dec, 8pm

This is the 12th anniversary showcase of the band Wani Ardy & The Guitar Polygamy (WIDYA), along with the book launch for The Art of Letting Go(d) by Wani Ardy. The showcase will also feature La Kibini Puppet Theatre.

BoboKL presents: Ning Baizura, at BoboKL, 28–30 Dec, 9:30pm

If you’d like to say farewell to 2018 in an intimate setting with good music, consummate performer Ning Baizura will take the stage at Bobo KL. Tickets are RM150++ for all nights except NYE, which will cost RM180++ (inclusive of one glass of bubbly). Diners receive a RM30 discount on admission charge. Reservations recommended (call 03-2092 5002).

Festival Falsafah Malaysia, at Gerakbudaya Bookstore, 29 Dec, 8am–11pm

An all-day philosophy festival by philosophy group Purana School. Discussants include Dr Sivin Kit on the panel of Falsafah & Ketamadunan (Philosophy and Civilisation), on Saturday 10am. Admission is free, and registration is required.

The Taboo/Art of Book-burning, at Rimbun Dahan, 29 Dec, 7pm

Book burning is frowned upon, but what happens when a book is meant to be burnt after reading? Singaporean writer Clara Chow invites you to burn a month’s worth of her writing from a month-long residency at Rimbun Dahan. Poems and prose are handwritten on traditional Chinese hell-money, a sacrifice to gods, ghosts and ancestors. Performance is followed by a reading of her play Make Sure.

Punctuality is requested by the organisers. As the space is located in Kuang, do check your travelling time ahead.

Readings @ Seksan, at Seksan Gallery, 29 Dec, 3:30–6pm

This long-running readings is a great way to hear new written works. Sometimes musicians will perform. Authors take turns to step forward and read from a range of poetry and prose, and there are always some unexpected surprises to discover.
