#WomensMarchMY Festival, at Ruang by ThinkCity, 24 Feb, 11am–6pm
This festival provides a series of events to deepen collective understand for this year’s five #WomensMarchMY demands, and the diverse experience of women and marginalised groups.
Programme includes a plenary discussion on the power of rallying, and film screening of Anarchist from The Colony (followed by a discussion). Parallel sessions will discuss various points of the rally demands; eliminating gender-based violence, equal pay and access to work, and unpacking masculinity. There’s also a garage sale to buy/sell used items.

Mitski Live in KL 2019, at The Bee, 18 Feb, 7pm
Singer-songwriter Mitski will be performing in Malaysia as part of her tour. Her fifth album Be The Cowboy was named #3 on TIME’s Top 10 2018 albums. Malaysian fans are familiar with the story of how her moody single Nobody was inspired by the loneliness she felt in Kuala Lumpur.

Late Night Improv with AIIA! ft. Phoon Chi Ho and Alfred Loh, at Crackhouse Comedy Club KL, 21 Feb, 9pm
This long-running improv group will be inviting comedian Phoon Chi Ho, and regular guest performer, actor Alfred Loh. Join AIIA for this comedy night, and watch them think on their feet to conjure up laughs for you.

Malam Sayu Berpuisi: #BulanAndI, at klpac, 21 Feb, 8:30pm
Outdoor spoken word performances under a banyan tree. Be dressed for the outdoors, this series doesn’t come with audio equipment or shelter from the weather. Poets for this night are artist Anjali Nijjar Venugopal, editor Tshiung Han See, and current reigning Malaysia National Poetry Slam Champion Dhinesha Karthigesu.

Tai Ji Tua Teow (The Big Murder Mystery or Not), at Kotak (Five Arts Centre), 22–24 Feb
A Hokkien musical drama written and directed by Chee Sek Thim. The story follows three characters whose daily routines are disrupted by the discovery of a mysterious hand. Admission is RM40 (promo: Buy 5 free 1). Malay and Mandarin surtitles available.

The Singing Balcony Session #7 – The Opera Edition, at The Zhongshan Building, 23 Feb, 11:30am & 12:30pm & 1:30pm
These performances take place in the walkways of Zhongshan Building — grab a sandwich at Tommy le Baker downstairs, or explore the building. Tenor Alphonsus Sim will be accompanied by Scott Woo (piano) and Terence Chong (bassoon), to perform Una Furtiva Lagrima from the Italian opera L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti. Their studio will be open for visits and chats after each performance.

Rethinking Melaka in the Long 15th Century CE, at Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, 23 Feb, 3–5pm
The first of Islamic Arts Museum’s Tawarikh Talks series, this public lecture is delivered by eminent economist Dr KS Jomo. It will reexamine Melaka’s early history. Seats are limited and RSVP is required.

Orang Asli Representation in Peninsular Malaysia +New Naratif: The First Year, at Gerakbudaya, 23 Feb, 2–4pm
A panel on Orang Asli Representation in Peninsular Malaysia, in conjunction with the launch of the book New Naratif: The First Year. Panellists include Shaq Koyok, a contemporary artist and the first Orang Asli person to win a Merdeka Award; and Tijah Yok Chopil, a longtime Orang Asli activist and Chairperson of Jaringan Kampung Orang Asli Sekampung (JKOAS). The third panellist, Dr Colin Nicholas, will deliver a separate public lecture the next day on the rights of Orang Asli, post-Cameron Highlands by-election.

Seni Tiga #01: Collaborative Performance, at Kongsi KL, 23 Feb, 8:30pm
Kongsi KL launches their new multidisciplinary monthly performance series, Seni Tiga, with a collaboration by dancer Steve Goh, projection painter Luna Macula, and musician Jimmy Chong. A mini food market also begins at 6pm. Entry by suggested donation of RM30 (adult), or RM15 (children).

Harry Potter: Imperium Musicus, at the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, 24 Feb, 2:30pm & 4:30pm
Magician Chase Lew takes the stage and performs tricks, with the sweeping music of Harry Potter films conjured up by conductor Naohisa Furusawa and the MPO.
