SUMMARY:SUJAK. SUNAR. TZEE. AFTER TRADITION
DESCRIPTION:Artists Sujak Rahman and Sunar Sugiyou come together for a new perspective on their visual work. Working in traditional media of batik and Chinese ink respectively\, each pushes past boundaries of visual art expression using and reiterating their love of these heritage forms. A special tribute is also paid to the late Cultural Medallion awardee Sarkasi Said Tzee whose modern batik work adds a backdrop to their practices. \nThe artists will exhibit selected works from earlier and recent series as an artistic dialogue. The discourse formed by the 3 artists’ works allows a closer scrutiny of how Asian traditional media has developed in contemporary expression. Aspects of the 3 artists’ life journeys seen through various adjusted existential positions and social commentaries are posited by the artists through their works.
