SUMMARY:Yee I-Lann: Mansau-Ansau
DESCRIPTION:Singapore Art Museum presents Yee I-Lann: Mansau-Ansau\, a solo mid-career exhibition showcasing recent and seminal works by Malaysian contemporary artist Yee I-Lann\, providing a refreshing and critical perspective from her home in Sabah. The exhibition titled Mansau-Ansau (referring in the Dusun and Kadazan language to a wandering without expectation and thus embracing curiosity) attends to Yee’s journey of discovery and creation over two decades\, navigating domains of knowledge\, old and new\, and reimagining the forms and dynamics of power. \nThe exhibition spans a range of media\, including photo collage\, silk\, batik\, bamboo pus\, and pandanus. Yee closely collaborates with sea- and land-based communities and indigenous mediums in Sabah\, Malaysia\, weaving thoughtfully presented narratives and cultural bridges through art. Visitors are invited to encounter a horizon that teases\, where the kerbau (buffalos) stand their ground and mats ‘eat’ tables\, experience karaoke beyond language\, and meet turtles as they return home. Yee I-Lann: Mansau-Ansau spotlights Yee’s critical practice\, which serves as a poignant reminder for reorientation\, attending to the moment with curiosity\, and embracing one’s path and rhythm.

SUMMARY:Pratchaya Phinthong: No Patents on Ideas
DESCRIPTION:Singapore Art Museum presents Pratchaya Phinthong: No Patents on Ideas\, the first solo exhibition of Bangkok-based artist Pratchaya Phinthong in Singapore. The exhibition delves into ideas of self-determination and objects as avatars of chance. Drawing inspiration from his time in Singapore\, it offers a comprehensive look at significant explorations foundational to Phinthong’s two-decade multidisciplinary practice\, reflecting his ways of conceptual thinking that translate research\, scientific discoveries\, economic theories\, and even rumours into experiential forms and gestures.  \nPhinthong’s works represent a crucial facet of Thai contemporary art\, rooted in collaboration\, exchange\, and the transference of artistic agency—reshaping the value and meaning of art. His practice often evokes open-ended situations that invite viewers to engage\, fill in the gaps with their own perceptions and explore multiple narratives. By engaging with issues of global exchange\, economic models and value systems\, Pratchaya Phinthong: No Patents on Ideas challenges our conventional understandings of the world and offers a thought-provoking perspective on contemporary concerns through the lens of Phinthong’s conceptual practice.
