SUMMARY:Subconscious
DESCRIPTION:Subconscious is Betty Goh’s long term project about the introspective reflections of her soul and subconscious. \nGrowing up in the heart of Singapore\, the adrenaline rush and vibrancy of this busy city excites her. At the same time\, she feels an amount of unspoken loneliness\, tension and dilemma hidden beneath the surface. These overlapping and complex emotions are often expressed through Betty’s subconscious during her daily street walks and hence\, the result of her visual poetry. \nThrough her unique use of reflections\, shadows\, silhouettes\, long exposure\, lines\, shapes and spaces\, Betty captures the subtle psychological aspects of a busy urban street life. While her work exudes a sense of mystery\, imagination and surrealism\, all her street work is un-posed and un-staged\, captured within a single exposure\, and with zero or minimal edits. Majority of the photos in this exhibition were shot on the streets of Singapore and some were captured in Tokyo. As a keen Leica camera user\, Betty has been using the Leica Q2 and Leica Q3 cameras to capture her work. \nCome visit this exhibition to celebrate Betty’s passion for abstract street photography. \nThis exhibition is supported by Objectifs Centre for Photography & Film and Leica Singapore.

SUMMARY:Timeless Youth
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition by Choi Minkyung & Sit Weng San \n19 Jul to 18 Aug 2024\nObjectifs Lower Gallery 1\n\nOpening: Fri 19 Jul 2024\, 7pm – 9pm\nFree admission \nRelated events\nArtist Talk with Choi Minkyung & Sit Weng San (Please register here)\nDate & Time: Sat 20 Jul\, 2pm – 3pm\nLocation: Objectifs Workshop Space\nFree admission \nTimeless Youth is a collaborative exhibition by Korean artist Choi Minkyung and Singaporean artist Sit Weng San that investigates individual & collective aspirations for youth and newness. It attempts to understand how the phenomena is echoed in all aspects of our lives; from identities to our bodies to urban spaces\, and in social\, cultural\, scientific\, and virtual spheres. \nThe two-channel installation\, A Manual for Timeless Youth is a step-by-step instructional video on how to achieve eternal youth. Following the guidelines of “Erase\, Control\, Colonize\, and Disguise”\, the work bridges the artists’ embodied experiences\, social phenomena in the wellness\, anti-aging industries\, urban redevelopment\, and modernization projects in their respective ‘post-colonized’ cities of Seoul and Singapore. \nA Manual for Timeless Youth (50 mins) loops hourly. \nThis exhibition is rated PG13 (Consumer Advice: Some Mature Content). \n  \nAbout Choi Minkyung  \nMinkyung Choi is a South Korean visual artist\, currently based in Seoul. Based on video and performance\, often engaging in collaborations with other women\, Choi’s works explore the issues of image and desire especially from her perspective as a woman. Choi has screened\, exhibited\, and took part in artist residencies around the globe including Seoul International New Media Festival\, DMZ International Documentary Festival\, Gyeonggi Creation Center\, Esplanade (Singapore)\, Tokyo Art Space\, Akiyoshidai International Artist Village (Japan)\, Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center (Palestine)\, Pier2 (Taiwan). Choi is a co-founder of East Asian feminist art activism group Tomorrow Girls Troop. \nAbout Sit Weng San \nSit Weng San is a Singaporean Artist and educator based between Singapore and Los Angeles. Utilizing primarily still and moving images\, San’s work investigates the systems and power structures that create the dissonance between inattentive\, homogeneous representations of marginalized bodies and the reality of complex and multi-faceted identities. San’s work was awarded the UOB Painting of the Year Award in Photography (2008)\, she was a recent recipient of the Sundance Institute Uprise Grant (2022) and the Korea-Singapore Exchange Grant (2022). Her work was exhibited at the Vincent Price Museum\, USC Keck School of Medicine\, City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs\, and the International Center of Photography. San is currently an Assistant Professor at El Camino College.
