SUMMARY:T:>Works: Living Soil Series — A Film Double Bill: Sandcastles (2024) and Moving Earth (2024)
DESCRIPTION:T:>Works introduces the Living Soil Series as part of CoThink Lab\, kicking off with a double-bill film screening:Sandcastles (2024) by Carin Leong and Moving Earth (2024) by Ian Mun. \n  \nWhat do we consider as home? The constructed complex we live in? The land where we make our livelihood?  \n  \n‘Sandcastles’ (2024) by Carin Leong draws parallels between a lost 19th-century Michigan town swallowed by sand and modern Singapore\, built on reclaimed land\, highlighting the ephemeral nature of human creations. ‘Moving Earth’ (2024) by Ian Mun is a nostalgic look at the Ground-Up Initiative in Singapore as they relocate\, celebrating their connection to the earth and its importance of soil in our lives. \n  \nWe invite the audience to participate in a pre-show activity to pen down stories of relocation and land reclamation. There will also be a post-film panel discussion featuring ‘Sandcastles’ producer Martin Loh\, ‘Moving Earth’ director Ian Mun\, and Bing Yu from Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) — a non-profit society dedicated to fostering sustainable kampung culture through active community participation.

SUMMARY:Artistic Directors Academy (ADA) Public Lecture: Mycelium Teachings: Cultivating Alliances and Collaborations
DESCRIPTION:There is a growing interest in fungi and mycelium as a material\, the ever-branching connecting threads of the fungal world. The entanglements and how this rhizomatic network functions is not just a fascinating ecological system and material\, but carries a profound usefulness as a metaphor for our potential new systems\, ways of thinking and behaviours. For this lecture\, our ADA Module #3: Nature and Ecologies masterclass specialist Yasmine Ostendorf-Rodríguez\, author of the book ‘Let’s Become Fungal! Mycelium Teachings and the Arts’\, will share what she has learned from working on a shiitake farm and how her deep dive into the world of mycology has influenced the workings and language of the various exchange platforms that she has founded and directed\, including the Future Materials Bank and the Green Art Lab Alliance.

SUMMARY:Artistic Directors Academy Masterclass #2 and Public Lecture: Queer Labour by Fadescha
DESCRIPTION:Work towards a manifesto for a future rooted in empathy and inclusivity. Artistic Directors Academy (ADA) Masterclass #2: Queer Labour by Fadescha awaits all artists and cultural changemakers\, from 9 to 17 August. Join the free Public Lecture on Wednesday\, 14 August! Sign up here for either\, or both programmes. \nEligible for SkillsFuture credit\, the 10-session Masterclass by Fadescha recognises and celebrates Queer Labour\, the labour of surviving the everyday. Participants will confront neoliberal values of isolation and self-abandonment\, and engage with artworks\, diverse texts\, and sessions of embodied practice\, to focus on the voices and lived-experiences of the structurally marginalised communities. \nThe public lecture on Wednesday\, 14 August\, at 7.30 PM will delve into Fadescha’s ‘Qworkaholics Anonymous’—a project reimagining de-addiction programmes to honour the survival efforts of marginalised individuals. \nVidisha-Fadescha (they/them) is an artist\, curator and cultural critic. Holding their lived experience of a radical gender\, caste\, race and disability\, Fadescha suggests centering one’s own body and desire towards liberation. Their artistic work includes video\, sound installations\, text\, and performance. They direct collective practices as a norm-critical pedagogy to queer hegemony. Fadescha’s works have garnered attention in leading arts and cultural publications. \nArtistic Directors Academy (ADA)\, led by T:>Works Artistic Director Ong Keng Sen\, is a research laboratory to develop Artistic Directors\, harnessing international cultural innovators to helm Masterclass modules\, as well as individual mentoring to sharpen and intensify skillsets. \nFor more information\, visit tworksasia.org/ada or contact us at ada@tworksasia.org.

SUMMARY:PerForm Discursive Programme: A World of Lines: From Third World Solidarities to Postsocialist Globalism
DESCRIPTION:PerForm returns with a one-day discursive programme by PerForm fellow Ho Rui An titled A World of Lines: From Third World Solidarities to Postsocialist Globalism. Through a series of presentations\, workshops and focused conversations\, invited speakers working across the fields of artistic\, curatorial and historical research will facilitate a collective process of thinking through the shifting geopolitical imaginaries within what was known as the Third World in the years leading to the foreclosure of socialism as a mass political project. Through its source-based and open-ended format\, the programme will allow participants to reflect on the ongoing intensification of unresolved Cold War-era tensions\, resurgent ethnonationalisms and widening socioeconomic inequalities that have come to disrupt the lines of labour\, technology and capital in the prevailing global order.
