SUMMARY:DnA Fest
DESCRIPTION:DnA Fest\, unfolding in Singapore from 16-19 and 23-26 July 2025\, offers a fresh and dynamic interpretation of Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Conceived by Ong Keng Sen\, this multifaceted event blends opera with contemporary expressions through three distinct components. The House of Janus presents a deeply personal documentary film\, while Dido & Aeneas The Belindas reimagines the opera with the energy of drag artistry and ballroom vogue\, featuring performers from Singapore and Japan. The experience culminates on select nights with The Afterparty\, promising a vibrant fusion of music and performance. \nThrough film\, live show\, and nightlife\, DnA Fest explores the core themes of love\, abandonment\, and transformation found in the opera\, offering a powerful contemporary lens. The festival not only showcases innovative artistic collaborations but also marks the launch of The AGEncy Fund on 10 July. This initiative will support the creative endeavors of artists aged 60 and above\, adding another layer of significance to this unique and boundary-pushing event.

SUMMARY:Living Soil Series – Exploring the future of Ground-Up Initiative through Social Presencing Theatre
DESCRIPTION:As the good people of Ground-Up Initiative (GUI)\, a grassroots urban intervention living and breathing the kampung spirit through active community participation\, bid their home goodbye\, the community is rebuilding GUI again in its new location\, starting from the soil. Dealing with this impermanence\, GUI’s core team wish is for GUI’s work to transcend everywhere in Singapore\, growing this movement\, one built on care\, connection\, and collective action\, beyond the new land – What is the future of GUI? What is next after GUI completes building their new home? \n  \nJoin us as we explore the future of GUI using Social Presencing Theatre (SPT)\, an embodied social arts-based change method for making visible current reality and exploring emerging future possibilities. Through this collaborative creative process\, participants will embody roles within a system\, using movement\, positioning\, stillness and spoken expression to uncover insights about the present state of GUI and its emerging possibilities of cultivating spaces to nurture connectedness\, creativity and risk-taking across Singapore.  \n  \nNo prior experience is needed—just an open mind\, open heart and open will to engage in this creative\, body-based inquiry. Come move\, reflect\, and co-create a vision for a 21st century kampung culture everywhere in Singapore.

SUMMARY:POA Opening Keynotes: Diamantina Arcoiris & Hira Nabi
DESCRIPTION:The POA Opening Keynotes focus on self-care and our sustainable relationship with nature – Redesigning Ourselves with fashion designer Diamantina Arcoiris (Bogotá) and How to Love a Tree by filmmaker and visual artist Hira Nabi (Lahore/Amsterdam). \n  \nLearn more about the Fellows here. \n  \nRedesigning Ourselves by Diamantina Arcoiris \nDrawing on therapeutic aspects of creativity and creative production\, fashion designer Diamantina Arcoiris empowers marginalised communities to explore alternative possibilities and ‘redesign’ their lives. For her keynote Redesigning Ourselves\, 72-13 is transformed into a fashion atelier infusing it with elements of Diamantina’s creative workshop located in the red light district of Bogotá. The workshop is a potently regenerative and transformative space: an educational centre\, a flexible activity space as well as a refuge for the community of drug users\, the homeless\, and sex workers she works with. Over the years the creative workshop has become a fashion house producing socially responsible and sustainable fashion brand Amor Real. In the Singapore atelier\, Diamantina curates a selection of embroidered haute couture\, streetwear and blankets crafted by these vulnerable groups. Each embroidered garment and material tells a story of the process of social rehabilitation\, emotional healing\, and personal growth. \n  \nHow to love a tree by Hira Nabi \nIn her lecture performance How to Love a Tree\, Hira Nabi will weave together narratives from wooded landscapes\, misty mountain sides\, the ghosts of extraction and British imperialism\, inviting the audience into forest time and inhabiting multiple temporalities at once. How to love a tree (2019 – ongoing) is a long-term project thinking with and about trees\, disappearance\, extinctions\, extraction\, love\, care\, and life and decay. The project includes moving images\, audio\, text\, performance\, printmaking\, and rubbings\, documenting the former colonial stations\, now tourist resort towns in the blue pine forests of Murree and the Galiyat region of Pakistan. The project examines the through-line of extraction from colonial extractivist policies to an infrastructure of tourism\, modernity that brings destruction with its arrival\, and leaves behind extinction in its wake. Within the project\, she asks\, ‘What does disappearance look like? What traces does it leave behind? What is the texture of rot\, debris and ruins?’
