SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: Cindy Aquino // AT THE END OF THE DAY (NO Community-run Space\, PH)
DESCRIPTION:Cindy Aquino (b.1986) is an artist based in Malabon\, Metro Manila. She received the Grand Prize at the 2013 Pride Photo Award in Amsterdam\, and her work has been previously exhibited as part of group shows at at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (Resetting the Clock\, 2018)\, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (Spectrosynthesis II – Exposure of Tolerance\, 2019)\, Parola UP CFA Gallery and BenCab Museum (Fotomoto22: Home)\, and Ephemere Gallery (Anarchy°1\, 2023) in Tokyo. \nA former contributing photographer and director for progressive media platforms\, Cindy is an alumna of the Photojournalists’ Center of the Philippines and specializes in black-and-white photography. In 2020\, she was diagnosed with unipolar depression\, prompting her to find solace and strength in her craft to process her emotions. This is her third solo exhibit\, and with this show\, Cindy aims to raise awareness on mental health and offer solidarity with others navigating similar challenges. \n***\n \nABOUT THE SPACE\nLaunched in Feb 2023\, NO is a community-run space in Quezon City that supports works and projects by emerging and mid-career artists and cultural workers\, from various disciplines and across art forms. We provide a physical venue for small-scale exhibitions and public programs\, in addition to offering production\, logistical\, and curatorial support for in-house and external partners. \nThrough our attached public programming and hosted/informal community meet-ups\, NO also serves as a knowledge-and-skills-exchange platform that aims to test and circulate alternative practices to address the gaps and inequities previously experienced in other contexts and strengthen solidarity networks as artists\, activists\, and cultural workers living in shared sociopolitical and economic precarity. \nAdd us on Instagram
