DESCRIPTION:Amazônia is a major exhibition by the award-winning photographer Sebastião Salgado (b. 1944\, Brazil). It spotlights the Amazon region and its ecosystems coming under the threat of deforestation and climate change\, while featuring the voices\, portraits\, and perspectives of the Indigenous communities who live in – and with – the largest rainforest on the planet. \nThis multisensory and immersive exhibition\, curated and designed by Lélia Wanick Salgado\, comprises over 200 photographs\, a soundtrack by Jean-Michel Jarre\, two projection rooms\, video testimonies from Indigenous leaders\, tactile image plates for the visually impaired\, and a space dedicated to Instituto Terra\, the reforestation non-governmental organisation founded by the Salgados. Amazônia powerfully demonstrates the beauty and majesty of the Amazon region\, while issuing an important call to protect and conserve what has been called “the lungs of the world”. \nThe exhibition features photographic artworks with male and female nudity and contains imagery of dead animals. Visitor discretion is advised.

Through four thematic sections aligned to the themes of transport\, accommodation\, food and beverage\, sights and shopping; the exhibition showcases a specially curated selection of ubiquitous material and artefacts evoking powerful memories of travel to and from Singapore. This includes the iconic analogue flip board previously located at Changi Airport\, to a set of the history-making Singapore Airlines’ A380 prestigious Suites Cabin seat.  \nAs part of Now Boarding\, there will also be a series of themed pop-up experiences that will happen throughout the year\, including NMS’ very own disco room\, and other complementary programming for everyone. SUMMARY:Spinning Connections: Creative Takes on Intangible Cultural Heritage
DESCRIPTION:From food to performing arts\, Southeast Asia’s intangible cultural heritage (ICH) is an important link to our past and intrinsic to our rich cultural identity. To pay homage to the time-honoured traditions and living expressions that define and connect us across the region\, the National Museum of Singapore and the Maybank Foundation will be presenting a series of four original video artworks on the Museum’s LED Wall that showcase creative contemporary responses to the theme of intangible cultural heritage (ICH). \nTitled Spinning Connections: Creative Takes on Intangible Cultural Heritage\, the commissioned artworks were selected from entries submitted through an Open Call exercise held between April to May last year\, to foster collaboration with the artistic community to engage audiences on important contemporary issues. Each artwork highlights an aspect of ICH\, namely food\, dance\, martial arts and storytelling\, while drawing connections to the National Museum’s collection. The artworks bring contemporary resonance to the past and invite visitors to understand the present in different ways.

DESCRIPTION:During the Lunar New Year\, spring flowers can be found in many households. In this workshop\, learn to create decorative flower pieces using ikebana\, the Japanese art of flower arrangement\, and explore the similarities or differences with the Chinese style of floral art. At the end of the workshop\, bring home your own masterpiece to display and show your family and friends! \n  \nThe photograph is for illustration purposes only and may differ from the actual pieces created during the workshop. \n  \nAbout the facilitator \nPassionate about flowers\, Sarah left her advertising career with a goal to celebrate nature and founded Poppy Flora Studio in the year 2000. Sarah is known for her airy\, bountiful and vibrant mix of colours in her floral designs. Her works have been featured in magazines as well as numerous wedding websites\, newspapers and photo shoots. To advocate the art of floral arrangement\, Sarah shares her flower knowledge and experience through hands-on workshops that focus on giving in-depth tutelage while encouraging students to investigate and develop their own signature styles. \n  \nThis programme is recommended for ages 10 and above. As scissors/shears will be used during the workshop\, participants between the age of 10 and 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Price includes a presentation\, hands-on workshop\, and materials required for the workshop\, except tools. DESCRIPTION:In visualising and creating various everyday and specialty dishes across generations\, Singapore has proudly carved its own identity and passion centring around the subject of food. With the introduction of dedicated spaces for hawker stalls and their constant development over the years\, the uniquely Singaporean hawker culture continues to remain strongly rooted in the hearts of locals. \n  \nRSCLS and MARIHADALITTLESHEEP (featuring Rene Foo) have come together for this video collaboration to paint their take on their observations of the streets. In the process of creating this piece\, the artists visualise street art and food as two beings growing hand in hand as they undergo parallel changes over time. Embodying a hint of playfulness and vibrancy\, the artwork aims to introduce a fresh perspective on hawker culture to audiences\, highlighting the subtle similarity in the identities of the streets and its food and art. \n  \nThe life-sized pushcart and the hawker apparatus on view here are an artistic salute to the street vendors who have contributed to our rich heritage and culture. \n  \nAbout the artists \nRSCLS -[ras-kuhl]  \nFormed in late 2006\, RSCLS is an urban art collective that believes in the propagation of acts of artistic nonsense through open uninhibited random collaborations and discourse. A collective of artistic misfits and outsiders from diversely distinct backgrounds\, the collective is united by their love for graffiti and street art. \n  \nAs a collective\, RSCLS is a recipient of the Seed Grant from the NATIONAL ARTS COUNCIL and have been involved in numerous exhibitions and events both locally and internationally. THE SOLIDARITY MOVEMENT is an initiative by RSCLS to create a regional sharing network for urban arts. It is also a program that seeks to document\, archive and provide an understanding and education of street art and graffiti as an art form in the cultural and urban context of each different city in South East Asia. \n  \n@rscls \n  \nMARIHADALITTLESHEEP \nThroughout her career\, Marianne (@marihadalittlesheep) has explored a diversity of art forms from visual arts to music\, dance and theatre. \n  \nShe has participated in projects by National Arts Council\, National Youth Council\, Singapore Tourism Board\, Land Transport Authority and more\, taking on roles from the project manager to artist and photographer/videographer. Residents in Singapore are also invited to contribute their memories and objects relating to the theme of technology up to the present day\, and how it has played an important role in their lives. \n  \nAs part of this showcase\, there will also be an afterhours escape room activity that will be available as a ticketed experience on selected dates. Please note that the gallery will be closed at 6pm for the escape room game on these selected dates\, with last admission at 5.30pm.
