DESCRIPTION:BEYOND & BACK features recent paintings by two young and emerging local artists:\nDominic Thian & Matthias Chua. The paintings presented seek to go beyond trending\nand contemporary modes of engagement with art. What is hoped will emerge is an\nauthentic raison-d’etre—a simple and harmonious manner of creating and\nappreciating art. \nThe viewer will see works inspired by ethereal impressions of light\, and pieces that\ntap into the unlimited expressive potential of the human figure. Our artists will\nshowcase a repertoire of work which includes scintillating outdoor etudes\, delicate and\nintricate still-life paintings\, and a tour-de force of portraits and monumental figurative\nwork. \nJust as how the early Nanyang generation were enthralled by the modernist\nmovement toward more primitive modes and motifs of expression\, so too do the works\nhere revere more primordial manners of perception to explore the sophistication of\nexpression instead of the deconstructivism that is popular today. \nThe exhibition doors are open for viewers to join us at The Arts House from Saturday\nMarch 25th to Sunday April 2nd.
