SUMMARY:Tracing Steps\, Learning Journey
DESCRIPTION:Date: Fri 15 Sep to Sat 7 Oct \nTime: 12:00pm – 7:00pm (Monday – Saturday\, closed on Sunday\, public holidays and College closures)\nVenue: Earl Lu Gallery\, Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore\, LASALLE College of the Arts\nAdmission: Free \n  \nThe Tracing Steps\, Learning Journey exhibition pays tribute to LASALLE founder Brother Joseph McNally’s journey from Ireland to Singapore. It features a series of drawings responding to a trip to Brother McNally’s birthplace of Ballintubber in County Mayo\, Ireland\, in June and July 2023.  \n  \nThe works by artist-designers Edmund Chia and Vicente Delgado\, lecturers from LASALLE’s Faculty of Design\, are developed from sources that include ephemera collected from local charity shops and the natural elements of the land. Physical and digital drawings re-interpret what they have gathered from their visit to showcase a range of approaches\, materials and techniques. This encapsulates the ethos of placing drawing as a ‘medium’ as an engine of design pedagogy at LASALLE – reflective of Brother McNally’s spirit of exploration and experimentation.

SUMMARY:ARTWALK 2023
DESCRIPTION:Our culture\, heritage and traditions can be likened to an echo – they reverberate in all directions and practices come and go like sound waves. However\, a sound alone does not create an echo; rather\, what allows echoes to manifest is their environment. Similarly\, culture cannot exist in a vacuum. It is people within a society that allow the culture to persist\, or evolve\, over time. The metaphor of an echo reminds us that our culture is in constant flux\, never stagnant. \nARTWALK 2023 calls on audiences to envision the various ways our culture could grow from here. Despite its time away from the streets\, the heart of ARTWALK as well as the cultures it celebrates has only evolved. With its resounding return to Little India and Katong-Joo Chiat\, ARTWALK relooks at our cultural heritage\, bringing these spaces and histories alive through the reflections and impressions of contemporary artists. \nWhile echoes eventually fade out\, culture never dies. Rather\, it grows\, evolves and takes new forms. Where an echo may fade into non-existence\, the impact culture leaves is permanent. \nARTWALK 2023 takes place from 6 – 15 January. Stay tuned for the programme line-up to be announced soon.

SUMMARY:ONE NIGHT ONLY 2022: FLUID FRINGES
DESCRIPTION:One Night Only\, an annual showcase of works by LASALLE College of the Arts’ BA(Hons) Fine Arts Level 2 and Level 3 students\, returns for its seventh edition. \nAfter two digital editions during the COVID-19 pandemic\, this year’s One Night Only sees the revival of a physical showcase at LASALLE’s Winstedt Campus\, with diverse artworks by 51 artists on display. The theme for this year\, Fluid Fringes\, is a nod to the continuous process of learning and unlearning\, synthesising new and pre-existing knowledge. \nExploring the individual\, their surroundings and the muddling barriers that separate them\, artists as active agents investigate the malleability of the transitory states of being\, probing the boundaries between the internal and the external\, the personal and the public\, the familiar and the unfamiliar. One Night Only also expounds on the versatility of contemporary modes of artistic expression and the mediums through which these expressions manifest. \nThe works on show have emerged from curriculum electives such as The Performative Body\, Wearable Art\, A Mutual Tuning\, Fieldwork and Rendering Realities. They explore themes ranging from the body – its physicality and social identity – to ideas of space which these bodies occupy\, interact with or digitally fabricate.

SUMMARY:TROPICAL LAB 16: EMERGENCY
DESCRIPTION:Tropical Lab is an international art camp organised by LASALLE College of the Arts for masters degree and PhD candidates. Led by Senior Fellow\, Milenko Prvački\, the intensive and highly engaging art camp will bring together more than 20 students from international art colleges and institutions. Events include a series of workshops\, talks and seminars guided by established international and Singaporean artists\, culminating in an exhibition. \nThis year’s theme ‘Emergency’ is a contemporary idea primarily borne out by sudden medicalised ruptures to the human body\, severe political fractures to the body politic of society\, and everyday breaks as a means to temporally attend to matters with a sense of immediacy and urgency. These ritualised signifiers form the basis on which one can help ascertain the current station of contemporary society. \nLocation\n\n\n\nPraxis Space\, Project Space and Brother Joseph McNally Gallery

\nParticipating institutions\nCalifornia Institute of the Arts\, Goldsmiths University of London\, Köln International School of Design\, LASALLE College of the Arts\, Sanata Dharma University\, Nagoya University of Arts and Sciences\, University of Arts in Belgrade\, University of Art and Design\, Cluj-Napoca\, Universiti Teknologi MARA\, University of California\, Davis\, University of Plymouth\, University of the Philippines\, Diliman\, University of Washington\, University of West Bohemia\, Zurich University of the Arts \nArtists\nAina Shukri\, Alfiah Rahdini\, Ami Konuma\, Brendan Johnny\, Carmen Ceniga Prado\, Dana Blume\, Duarte Perry\, Isabella Teng\, Jonáš Baierl\, Kathi Schulz\, Katie Tindle\, Lucylle Bianca Cawaling\, Luka Ličina\, Marić\, Neil Robinson\, Norbert Filep\, Razan AlSarraf\, Sam Rathbun\, Tamae Kobori\, Wang Huiling\, Yasmin L Jones \nCurator\nMithu Sen
