DESCRIPTION:This exhibition presents celebratory works from four artists from different regions. Their 15 exquisite artworks each has an illuminating story that promises to captivate. \nMiao Yao Sheng’s oil paintings capture festive scenes of ethnic minority peoples from Guizhou Province. Similarly\, Ma Pak Loong’s sketches immortalise commemorative buildings in cities across Asia and Europe. \nIn contrast\, Chua Zin Yan expresses celebration through uplifting collages\, crafted during the pandemic lockdown. Meanwhile\, Harshita Agarwal’s interactive puzzle prints link the ephemeral nature of festivities to an iconic building that will soon disappear. \nThe artists each hail from a culturally connected region\, and they paint a rich palette of emotions\, traditions\, and environments. Collectively\, these works emphasize thriving communities and celebrate a vibrant and inclusive way of living. \nThe World Beyond is on show at OCBC Wisma Atria from 1 November 2023 to 2 January 2024.

SUMMARY:Roving Perspectives: Fast-Changing Environments of Urban Singapore and Rural China\, 1980s-2000s
DESCRIPTION:Roving Perspectives brings together four decades of sketches by Singaporean architect Ma Pak Loong and oil paintings by award-winning Chinese artist Miao Yao Sheng. \nMa Pak Loong explores the space between work and commute\, documenting parts of the city that have transformed or vanished. This never-seen-before collection traces Ma’s search for “an architectural well of space” in Singapore and abroad. \nMirroring the architect\, Miao Yao Sheng embeds himself within communities of people in villages to depict their historical architecture and present-day inhabitants. \nTogether\, their dialogue transcends time and cultures\, and their roving landscapes reflect the rapidly changing lifestyles and habitats around different places. \nView the exhibition at OCBC Wisma Atria from 1 August to 31 October 2023.
