SUMMARY:Residency Sharing: Playwrights and their F*ck You Plays
DESCRIPTION:Join our resident playwrights in a sharing from their exploration of plays that say “F*CK YOU” to systems\, conventions and injustice.\n \nThe four residents of Centre 42’s Playwright’s Professional Development Residency have spent the past six months reading and discussing plays that turn back the gaze\, plays that dream about systems unraveling\, plays that ask hard and pungent questions\, plays that stare fear and proscription in the face. In short\, they’ve been reading plays that say “F*CK YOU” in some form or another and turning these provocations and insights on their own practices. \nThis evening will be an intimate sharing of their discoveries\, uncertainties\, and ambitions for the future. Come listen to what they’ve got to share and stay for a casual chat with the artists at the end.

SUMMARY:Writing from a (safe) distance Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Admission: By Donation via Eventbrite \nJoin Centre 42’s Writer-In-Residence Michelle Tan in an exploratory text-based workshop about the necessity of finding distance in artmaking. \nHow do we separate ourselves from the art we make? When it comes to writing or creating from a personal place\, how might we lay bare the self while simultaneously protecting it? How might a writer/artist use vulnerability in a way that is illuminating rather than indulgent? \nThis is an exploratory text-based workshop about the necessity of finding distance in artmaking\, where participants are encouraged to also share their own ways of achieving this in their individual practice\, or bring any questions/thoughts they might have about the function of distance in art.

SUMMARY:Lecture: Contemporary Performance is Dramaturgical
DESCRIPTION:A Public Lecture and Discussion by Peter Eckersall (USA) on the role of dramaturgy in making contemporary performance. \n  \nIn this lecture Peter Eckersall will discuss the role of dramaturgy in making contemporary performance. He will explore dramaturgy as an ‘expanded field’ of practices that include creative research\, writing\, devising practices and social practices. \nA key question will be how dramaturgy helps to make performances that are creative and aesthetically innovative while using the medium of theatre itself to make visible our political conditions and debate the future. \nWhat can the performing arts do and what are its limitations? What can dramaturgy bring to questions for performance makers\, dramaturgs\, and cultural thinkers? How does contemporary performance engage us in the ethical\, aesthetic\, and political questions of our times? \nRegister at: bit.ly/adnlecture2022 \n—– \nThis lecture is part of a workshop & lecture series by Peter Eckersall in Singapore titled “Contemporary Dramaturgy and Performance Practice”\, taking place 3 – 7 August 2022. \nFind out more here: https://bit.ly/ADNworkshop2022 \n  \nABOUT THE SPEAKER \nPeter Eckersall teaches in the PhD Program in Theatre and Performance at the Graduate Centre\, City University of New York and is an Honorary Professorial Fellow\, University of Melbourne.
