SUMMARY:Orbiting body
DESCRIPTION:Artists:\nApichatpong Weerasethakul\nAraya Rasdjarmrearnsook\nPratchaya Phinthong\nSathit Sattarasart\nSorawit Songsataya \n  \nCurator: Mary Pansanga \nImages are re-creations of what one has seen\, whether with the eye or in the ‘mind’s eye’. This re-created image is separated from the space-time of the image’s original or prior appearance. The image therefore instantiates a new state of visibility\, connecting in several dimensions what lies before us in the present time\, and what has already transpired. \nMethods of image-making have evolved with technological advancements. We began to express our observations with our hands and bodies\, then used tools and apparatuses to record images\, surpassing the limitations of memory. This has opened up new possibilities\, from capturing a single moment to creating moving images that can challenge our perception of space and time. \n‘Orbiting body’ is an exhibition that explores the moving image through the works of five Thai artists: Apichatpong Weerasethakul\, Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook\, Pratchaya Phinthong\, Sathit Sattarasart\, and Sorawit Songsataya. Each artist utilises images to create an interval\, a passage of perception that reflects the sense of distance – both physical and cognitive – between the viewer and the work. The interplay of these distances is what determines the movement of thoughts\, feelings and bodies within the exhibition space. \nComprising installation\, video\, photography and sculpture\, the exhibition invites us to take time and reflect on the process of visual perception\, as it is shaped by movement\, interpretation\, and interactivity\, as well as the assembly\, dispersal and revitalisation of images.
