SUMMARY:A Piece of Home
DESCRIPTION:How can we encourage more to look at the world with fresh eyes\, unencumbered by the norms and standards of society? Perhaps start at A Piece Of Home\, a group exhibition featuring 26 young persons with disabilities (PwDs). Organised by ART:DIS and curated by award-winning exhibition-maker John Tung\, the comprehensive showcase of over 60 artworks across paintings\, prints & ceramics invites viewers to perceive the world differently. \n“Home is a complex concept that shapes our identity and sense of belonging\, and for these artists\, this concept can be especially nuanced and layered. Working outside of traditional art institutions and conventions\, their experiences and personal interests have shaped the artworks on display. At A Piece of Home\, I encourage viewers to consider the ways in which art transcends limitations as this exhibition offers a rare moment of authenticity that is seldom encountered in the art world today\,” said John in his curatorial statement.  \nThis exhibition is a highlight of ART:DIS’s 30th anniversary celebration and a cumulation of a year of artist-in-training programme in the Fine Arts and Ceramics faculty.  Held at Objectifs\, an arts space nestled amongst many art institutions\, we hope to raise the visibility artists with disabilities\, expose them to professional art spaces and invite others into their world where art is a sanctuary. Let their creations ignite your imagination and remind you of the power of finding solace in familiar spaces. \nAccompanying this exhibition is a range of public programmes facilitated by artists with disabilities. Share in their joy of creating art and expressing yourself through a variety of mediums. Sign-up here as spaces are limited: bit.ly/APieceOfHome_Register

SUMMARY:Unseen Singapore – Our Past\, Present and Future
DESCRIPTION:16 artists with disabilities from ARTDIS (Singapore) Ltd\, formerly known as Very Special Arts\, pay tribute to the nation in an exhibition titled Unseen Singapore. From 4 August – 31 October 2022\, and with the kind support of Maybank Singapore\, 44 paintings will be on display at The Gallery @ ART:DIS to celebrate Singapore’s 57th year of independence. \nSince that momentous milestone in 1965\, the nation’s history has seen many peaks and troughs\, and her citizens bear witness to it all with great pride. Through three thematic sections – Past\, Present\, Future – artists from ART:DIS demonstrate their nostalgia\, appreciation and hope for Singapore. \nIn Past\, scenes of bygone eras remind us how far the little red dot has progressed. Forgotten culture\, unbeknownst to the millennial generation such as dining curb-side and playing in nature\, are thus passed down memories from old to young and filled with wistful affection. \nIn Present\, hallmarks of the island state take centre stage. From embracing multi-culturalism to successful public housing projects and our nickname as Garden City\, these landscapes illustrate the achievements of the nation in a short period of time. \nIn Future\, icons of the cosmopolitan city such as magnificent skylines and abundant greenery reveal the country’s ambition. With an ardent belief that the nation will surely soar to even greater heights\, these paintings encompass well-wishes for Singapore’s journey \nahead. \nAcross a variety of mediums such as traditional watercolours oils\, to modern renderings in acrylics\, Chinese Ink and even photography\, Unseen Singapore promises to be a great conversation starter as we swap stories about this country we call home.
