[Singapore] Sing Lit Station HALP Fund

The HALP Fund is a discretionary fund used by Sing Lit Station to support literary arts practitioners in the creation and presentation of their work in any form. It also aims to provide subsistence funds during tough times. The maximum quantum will be $500 per application. Applications will be held year-round until 31 March 2021 or until funds are fully disbursed, whichever comes first.

[Singapore] SkillsFuture Top-Up

Adult Singaporeans aged 25 and above will receive a one-off $500 SkillsFuture Credit top-up. Eligible individuals can start using the additional credit from 1 October 2020. Singaporeans aged 40 to 60 will receive a special $500 SkillsFuture Credit top-up. This will be over and above the $500 SkillsFuture Credit top-up for Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above. Eligible individuals can start using the SkillsFuture Credit provided under this package from 1 October 2020, on about 200 career transition programmes offered by the Continuing Education and Training (CET) Centres.

[Singapore]  Self-Employed Persons Training Support Scheme

All Self-Employed Persons will be entitled to between $7.50-$11 an hour of training allowance for SkillsFuture series courses and selected sector-specific training programmes. This will be administered by NTUC.

[Singapore] Singapore Unbound Relief Fund (SURF)

Singapore Unbound has decided to postpone this year’s writing fellowships to Southeast Asia and to commit the funds instead to aid Singaporean writers badly affected by the shutdowns. Creative writers, whether they are Singapore citizens living anywhere in the world or Permanent Residents of Singapore, may apply for a USD200/SGD280 grant from the Singapore Unbound Relief Fund with no strings attached. This fund is specifically intended to help those in dire need of immediate help. Donations to this fund are also welcome.

[NEW] Australia-Singapore Digital Residencies

The Australia Council for the Arts and the National Arts Council Singapore are jointly administering the second iteration of a set of reciprocal digital residencies between Australia and Singapore. The opportunity is designed to seed research on artistic practice and collaborative processes between artists from the two countries, with the potential to spark new connections or deepen existing relationships which may result in co-creation of new work.

[NEW] PICA Interdisciplinary Lab: Encounter, Practice, Play

In 2021, the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) will host the first of a three-year artist exchange and professional development program with Australian and South and Southeast Asian artists. In 2021, this will include three artist labs led by Australian artists Joel Bray and Eugenia Lim, and will focus on interdisciplinary and intercultural practice through discussion, practice sharing and workshops. The labs will be an experiment in finding innovative ways of fostering togetherness and embodied practice, even when we must remain physically separated.

[NEW] Open Call: SAM Residencies 2021

SAM Residencies is now accepting applications for the 2021 cycle for three residencies – the Artist Residency (6 months); Community & Education Residency (1-3 months); and Curatorial & Research Residency (1-3 months). Selected residents will be hosted in Singapore between July 2021 and March 2023.

Open to both Singapore-based and international practitioners, across all discipline of the arts, the 2021 cycle focuses on processes and practices which engage with:

– Notions of “intimacy” and/or “infrastructures”

“Connection Without Words”, involves pairs of strangers (one person who is Deaf or hard of hearing and another person who is without disabilities) who would gaze into each other’s eyes for 12 minutes, and simply be present with each other. We want to inspire people to be present with another person in a way that is filled with real emotions, awareness and authenticity, no matter where they’re at in life. Call for entries: KL NOIR 2021

Fixi Novo is looking for new short stories of 1,500 – 4,000 words to be published in the anthology KL NOIR 2021. The story needs to be primarily in English and primarily set in Kuala Lumpur; bonus points if the specific locations and era (not everything has to be set “now”) are signified clearly. The theme is “KL Noir” which you may interpret any way you wish. Writers can be of any nationality, age, political affiliation, sexual orientation or even height.

The Southeast Asian Queer Cultural Festival 2021: Be/Longings is calling for submissions to an anthology of poems that engage with and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. This digital anthology aims to gather the multivalent and polyphonic voices of queer Southeast Asian poets. It will consider how we have been affected and transformed under quarantine or lockdown, creating a space for poems that reflect our diverse experiences during these troubled times.

Open call for partnership projects: Creative Commissions on Climate Change 

The British Council is inviting applications for creative commissions that bring together art, science and digital technology and offer innovative responses to climate change. The commissions will be part of the cultural programme in the build up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), which the UK is hosting in Glasgow in November 2021. Applicants can apply for between £30,000 – £50,000 to realise their creative idea.

Applications open: Singapore Youth Theatre 2021

Singapore Youth Theatre is looking for our next batch of new talents – young people from the ages of 13 and 17 who are passionate about making theatre and telling stories for and about their own generation.

Participants will gain first-hand experience of how to make theatre – from writing and directing to performing. At the end of the programme, participants will stage an original production under the guidance and direction of a professional creative team. No prior acting or theatre experience is necessary.

Submissions open: Julius Baer Next Generation Art Prize

The Julius Baer Next Generation Art Prize is for young Southeast Asian artists who create digital art – working with a medium of the future. The Prize is focused on awarding artists working with the digital image. There are two categories of submission: still images and moving images. The prize is open to residents of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam; who are aged 18 to 40 years old, as of 28 February 2021.

The Christian faith has generated a rich literary tradition. Much of its spiritual writing has been in the form of religious poetry, which has become much loved. The Tiger Moth Review, a new and independent eco-conscious journal from Singapore, is calling for submissions of poetry, prose, art and photography that emphasises the connections between “human activity and the environment that produces it”, work that displays an “awareness of ecology and concerns over environmental disaster” (“Ecopoetics”, Poetry Foundation).

They are looking for work that is eco-conscious and critical, work that celebrates the beauty/ bounty of nature, work that is cognisant, curious and contemplative of the relationships between humanity, modernity, cultures and the environments in which we live in or imagine ourselves to inhabit.
