SUMMARY:Monstress – The Reclaiming of Medea and Medusa
DESCRIPTION:Can we create a community that is ready to offer support\, before it’s too late? \nMei\, a young blind girl who has recently moved into a new neighbourhood finds solace in an unlikely friendship with Melissa\, a mother struggling to protect and care for her son with high support needs. As their lives intertwine\, they instinctively recognize the hidden wounds each carries\, navigating a world that often silences the most vulnerable. From playwrights Jean Tay and Claire Teo\, who stars with main cast Oon Shu An and Syarifuddin Sahari\, under director Yvan Karlsson and choreographer Zhuo Zi Hao\, this play challenges audiences to rethink justice\, compassion and what it truly means to see and be seen in a fractured world. \nPresented as part of ART:DIS Emerging Artist programme that supports the professional development of disabled artists\, made possible through the Enabling Lives Initiative grant\, come experience this development showcase made for and with the disabled community. It features embedded accessibility such as Creative Captions and Creative Narration for the neurodiverse\, D/deaf\, hard-of-hearing and visually-impaired. The venue is also wheelchair and guide dog-friendly. With themes of sexual violence and abuse\, which may be distressing to some audience members\, viewer discretion is advised (suitable for ages 18+).

SUMMARY:March On: A Drop in the Ocean
DESCRIPTION:A drop falls into the ocean—wondrous and free\, with a vast unknown ahead. The still waters are teeming with life: whales call\, fishes leap\, and new experiences await! \nSpecially designed for pre-walking babies\, crawlers and early walkers aged 3 to 15 months\, this immersive\, non-verbal\, theatrical experience explores the magic and mysteries of the ocean. Through music\, sounds and movement\, babies will engage in a sensory-rich journey that nurtures their imagination and curiosity. \nFirst developed by Ian Loy in 2019\, in collaboration with Ellison Tan\, Myra Loke\, and Serene Tan (Stan) under Esplanade’s Theatre for Young Audiences Associate Artist programme\, this work is co-produced by The Artground and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. \nIn December 2024\, the production had a work-in-development season at the Sydney Opera House\, with six sold-out showcases. \nPerformers: Ian Loy\, Ellison Tan\, Myra Loke\, Chew Shaw En\nSound Design and Live Music: Serene Tan (Stan)\nCo-Produced by: The Artground
