Beneath the ostentatious luxuries of modern Singapore lie the sea and the land seething in their grief; and as Laurie’s connection to them grows she discovers that this loss is collective and communal. \nPlaywright: Joel Tan\nDirector: Cherilyn Woo\nActors: Julie Wee\, Daniel Jenkins\, Ching Shu Yi\, Serene Chen\, Tysha Khan\, Irsyad Dawood\, Joel Tan \nGhazal of the Banana Tree’s Heart \n\n\nA solitary banana tree remains on the shore\, the sole survivor amongst its compatriots\, lost to the need for the space they occupied; a lone banana tree that is the last repository of the stories of those shores – of fishermen\, turtles and the sea itself. Alone it sings the same refrain – but who listens? \nPlaywright: Danial Matin\nDirector: Grace Kalaiselvi\nActors: Suhaili Safari & Shahid Nasheer \nFragments of a Singaporean Hainanese \nAt the opening of a new exhibition on the Hainanese community in Singapore\, memories are excavated through the stories of three Hainanese immigrants of different generations\, their connections to an island they left for another\, and the sea that connects them. \nPlaywright: Wang Liansheng\nDirector: Lim Shien Hian\nActors: Jalyn Han\, Hang Qian Chou\, Rino Junior John\, Mitchell Fang

SUMMARY:LEELA JHANSI
DESCRIPTION:Fa Abdul & Big Nose Productions brings you LEELA JHANSI\, a gripping tale of a stolen childhood\, where dreams clash with harsh realities in the heart of a remote village. Thirteen-year-old Leela\, a spirited girl with aspirations as vast as the open skies above her\, yearns for education and the promise of a better future. However\, her innocent dreams are shattered when the wealthiest man in the village proposes marriage\, not out of love\, but as a transaction for his own gain. \nLEELA JHANSI weaves a compelling narrative that challenges conventional notions of morality and tradition\, urging audience to confront the uncomfortable truths that lie beneath the surface of seemingly innocent customs. Through Leela’s courageous journey\, the story poses thought-provoking questions about the value of a child’s innocence\, the importance of education\, and the power dynamics that govern our society. It is a tale that resonates far beyond the confines of its setting\, offering a poignant reflection on the universal struggle for dignity\, freedom\, and the pursuit of one’s dreams. \nSet to grace the stage from May 3rd to 5th\, 2024 at Auditorium A\, Level 5\, Komtar\, Penang\, LEELA JHANSI promises to captivate audiences with its poignant exploration of a stolen childhood and the ethical dilemma surrounding child marriage.
