SUMMARY:New Scripts Garage Nov 2023: Malay-language Edition
DESCRIPTION:The New Scripts Garage is a regular offer of dramaturgical support for new scripts\, convened every other month\, with low barriers to entry. On a regular basis\, we open our inboxes for script submissions from playwrights seeking dramaturgical support for their work. \nFor the November 2023 cycle\, we are collaborating with Teater Ekamatra to offer a Malay-language edition\, that will accept up to eight scripts through an Open Call. \n\n\nThis programme prioritises writer development over polish and aims to get the writer excited to work on the next draft of their script\, with a clearer sense of where to go. \nScript Eligibility: \n\nWe are accepting plays in the Malay-language or predominantly (at least 80%) in the Malay-language for this special edition. Translations are welcome where available.\nWe are not accepting straight adaptations of other work (e.g. novels\, films)\, but will accept adaptations with a clear creative\, re-inventive\, and/or radical approach.\nWe prioritise completed drafts of full length plays and shorter plays. We may consider partially complete drafts of scripts with extensive scenes.

SUMMARY:Open Call - Sound Plot: True/South\, A Collection of Audio Plays
DESCRIPTION:As part of Singapore Art Week 2024\, the Singapore Art Museum and Centre 42 are commissioning and producing a collection of original audio plays written in response to the geographical area of Tanjong Pagar/Pasir Panjang where the museum currently resides. \nThis is an invitation for two writers to respond through audio drama to this fascinating area\, guided by the curatorial prompt “True/South”. Selected writers will need to be available for an intensive script development phase in November 2023\, and will work with a director during the recording and production process in December 2023. Audio production is done in collaboration with Artwave Studio. \nFrom 19 – 28 Jan 2024\, the Singapore Art Museum will host these audio plays in their premises. Each play will have an audio spot installation inviting visitors to plug in to a world of audio drama\, connecting their physical site to imagined fictions and histories of adjacent sites. \nThis is a paid opportunity\, and commissioned writers will receive $1\,000 each.

SUMMARY:SOUL of Odyssey - Multi-sensory\, Multimedia\, Multi-genre
DESCRIPTION:KL Shakespeare Players and the Hiroshi Koike Bridge Project of Japan announce the staging of SOUL of Odyssey an international collaboration from 26 October to 29 October at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre (dpac).  \nThis multi-sensory work\, based on the Greek classic by Homer\, devises and reimagines the hero’s journey and his attempts to rise from the ashes of war\, chaos\, and battles with deities. It questions and explores how human beings react to forces perceived to be out of their control. Or as in the proverbial question: “What happens to ants when elephants fight?”  \nWhen asked what informs his productions with their constant shifts of sensory focus\, Hiroshi Koike\, the artistic director of the production\, says that he wants to “shock and inspire”\, especially the young\, to imagine possibilities.  \nSOUL of Odyssey weaves different performative practices\, traditions and elements–dialogue\, storytelling\, movement\, dance\, live videos\, live music\, songs\, and chants–wrapped together with the aesthetic vision to create an integrated work that harmonizes sensory perceptions. In short\, a multimedia\, multisensory experience that informs holistically without privileging the intellect. Actors will speak in Bahasa Melayu\, Chinese\, English and Japanese. \nThis production is suitable for all ages.
