SUMMARY:The Fourth Trimester by Checkpoint Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Following sold-out runs of the critically acclaimed Normal (2015 and 2017)\, playwright Faith Ng and director Claire Wong return with The Fourth Trimester\, a compelling new play that will sweep you into the vivid\, messy embrace of parenthood and family life. \nThe first month is always the roughest. \nExhausted from battling sleepless nights and endless diaper changes\, first-time parents Samantha and Aaron find themselves overwhelmed caring for their newborn. Close friends rally around them in support\, but picture-perfect couple Lisa and Daniel are beginning to feel the strain of family life on their relationship\, while Ann yearns for a space of her own. Next door\, newlyweds Sofia and Johan deal with the pressures of starting a family. Faced with the tangle of life and its hurdles\, ‘adulting’ has never seemed so complicated. \nIncredibly rich\, humorous and compassionate\, The Fourth Trimester is achingly familiar in its portrayal of family life and all its uncertainties. With sensitive\, nuanced direction by Claire Wong and insightful dramaturgy by Huzir Sulaiman\, Faith Ng’s latest work casts a refreshing and timely light on parenthood\, identity\, and what it means to be happy in contemporary Singapore. \nExpect the unexpected in this hopeful and heartfelt ode to the places we call home\, and the people we choose as family. \n(Advisory: Some coarse language and mature themes relating to relationships\, parenthood\, and caregiving)

SUMMARY:PerForm Discursive Programme: A World of Lines: From Third World Solidarities to Postsocialist Globalism
DESCRIPTION:PerForm returns with a one-day discursive programme by PerForm fellow Ho Rui An titled A World of Lines: From Third World Solidarities to Postsocialist Globalism. Through a series of presentations\, workshops and focused conversations\, invited speakers working across the fields of artistic\, curatorial and historical research will facilitate a collective process of thinking through the shifting geopolitical imaginaries within what was known as the Third World in the years leading to the foreclosure of socialism as a mass political project. Through its source-based and open-ended format\, the programme will allow participants to reflect on the ongoing intensification of unresolved Cold War-era tensions\, resurgent ethnonationalisms and widening socioeconomic inequalities that have come to disrupt the lines of labour\, technology and capital in the prevailing global order.

SUMMARY:Animal Farm
DESCRIPTION:“All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others.“ \nSomething is going on at Manor Farm. The animals have overthrown Farmer Jones and\, with the pigs as their leaders\, have created a new state for themselves called Animal Farm. \nVowing to eliminate the terrible inequities in the system\, the pigs write a set of commandments as a guide for animal life. However\, cunning propaganda hides their true agenda\, as the ideals of the revolution are gradually subverted. \nAnimal Farm\, George Orwell’s most celebrated novel\, is a timely reminder that absolute power corrupts and that totalitarian regimes inevitably betray the trust of ordinary citizens. \nCombining physical theatre\, live and original music\, and innovative design\, Wild Rice’s 20th-anniversary production of Animal Farm is more than just a tale of barnyard betrayal. Vital\, sexy and wickedly funny\, it invigorates a world classic with humour\, integrity and clarity – proving that Orwell’s dark fairy tale is as relevant today as it was 80 years ago. \nProduction History\nWild Rice’s groundbreaking production of Animal Farm first opened to rave reviews at Singapore’s Jubilee Hall in 2002\, garnering three DBS Life! Theatre Awards for Best Director\, Best Ensemble Acting and Best Music. \nSome of the finest actors in Singapore and the region have gotten down on all fours to breathe life into Animal Farm’s menagerie of characters\, including Abdul Gani Karim\, Lim Kay Siu\, Lim Yu-Beng\, Pam Oei\, Tan Kheng Hua\, Selena Tan\, Yeo Yann Yann and more. \nAnimal Farm has since proudly flown Singapore’s flag overseas\, playing to rapturous full houses and standing ovations in New Zealand (2004)\, Hong Kong (2010) and Australia (2011). \nThis 20th Anniversary production marks the first time Wild Rice has staged Animal Farm in over a decade\, and features a brand-new ensemble cast of the country’s most promising young actors. \nStarring Erwin Shah Ismail\, Tia Andrea Guttensohn\, Dwayne Lau\, Audrey Luo\, Vester Ng\, Suhaili Safari\nDuration: Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes (with no interval)\nIMDA Rating: TBA

SUMMARY:Live. Love. Loaf.
DESCRIPTION:LIVE. LOVE. LOAF. insists upon acknowledging the gaping absence of pedestrian women\, loafing women\, alone women\, unchaperoned women\, flaneuring women in a poetry format. \nGet tickets on bit.ly/liveloveloaf \nAbout The Show: Loitering is as political as a nap is revolutionary. Through pause and presence\, we reclaim and reinvent. But the question is who gets to loiter? Just like the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon where something you recently learned about suddenly seems to appear everywhere\, the answer becomes inevitable once you know it. \nThrough this non-linear\, multi-disciplinary\, experimental\, four-act show\, an investigation into who gets to loiter – to exist and to occupy space without the context of purpose – we discover the socio-economic structures that are created by control over\, and through the absence of\, women. This one-woman show will journey through the riotous act of solo traveling\, introduce us to the gaze of the streets\, and forefront the liberating act of loafing. \nLive. Love. SUMMARY:Selected Verses from in within over under beneath Therapy
DESCRIPTION:What happens when mental health issues spill out of the therapy chair? \nSelected Verses from in within over under beneath Therapy delves into spaces beyond the therapy room\, experimenting with how mental health issues can be represented on stage. It gathers 2 collections of 4 short performances each\, conceptualised and written by local emerging artists. These pieces are as much about depictions of issues as they are about our process of finding ways to talk about them. We invite the audience to join us in shining light into overlooked corners of public discourse\, creating new spaces for encountering experiences and conversations around mental health. \nPrice: $20 per ticket \n*Surtitles in English will be provided for Mandarin performances. \nTickets can be purchased at https://forms.gle/oMobjDtxH1nnsbB56 \nFollow us @matterless.sg on Instagram and Matter.less on Facebook for more updates!
