DESCRIPTION:From 24 March 2023 \nDaily\, 10am – 7pm | Fridays\, 10am – 9pm \nAsian Civilisations Museum\, Level 3\, Fashion and Textiles Gallery \n  \nThe Asian Civilisations Museum presents Textile Masters to the World: The global desire for Indian cloth with a selection of exquisite garments and textiles at its Fashion and Textiles Gallery. Featuring 27 pieces from the National Collection and loans\, the exhibition spotlights the historic global impact of textile production in India\, and its role as evidence of trade and cultural exchange between India and regions such as the Middle East\, Southeast Asia\, and Europe from the fourteenth to nineteenth century. From fashion and furnishing\, to gift exchange and heirlooms\, visitors can marvel at the artistry and craftsmanship of early textile masters\, and discover how Indian textiles influenced local designs\, materials and fashions wherever they were traded.

SUMMARY:Call for Papers:  Southeast Asian Performance and Ecology
DESCRIPTION:A new volume edited by Kirstin Pauka\, Dennis Gupa\, and Catherine Diamond will address the particular\ncontributions made by Southeast Asian live performances of theatre\, dance\, puppetry\, and performance\nart to further a healthy engagement with nature. \nSoutheast Asian ecology and people’s relations to it are distinctly different from those in secular\, modern\,\nscientifically-driven post-Cartesian Europe and America. We wish to see how SE Asian contemporary\nperformance deals with environmental challenges conceptually\, aesthetically\, and pedagogically and whether it\noffers a unique perspective to the global discussion. \nWe invite papers in English from 5\,000-7\,000 words\, and specially encourage scholars and artists from\nthe Southeast Asian region to contribute. SUMMARY:Now Boarding: Experiencing Singapore through Travel\, 1800 - 2000s
DESCRIPTION:Hop aboard the National Museum of Singapore’s ‘flight’ to discover Singapore with Now Boarding: Experiencing Singapore through Travel\, 1800s-2000s\, a travel-themed exhibition that traces the evolution of Singapore’s identity as a popular travel destination\, through the eyes of those who arrived at our shores from the past to the present. \nSet against the backdrop of Singapore’s colonial past and its post-independence decades up to the present\, Now Boarding presents itself as a travel guide and visual exploration of Destination Singapore. Through four thematic sections aligned to the themes of transport\, accommodation\, food and beverage\, sights and shopping; the exhibition showcases a specially curated selection of ubiquitous material and artefacts evoking powerful memories of travel to and from Singapore. This includes the iconic analogue flip board previously located at Changi Airport\, to a set of the history-making Singapore Airlines’ A380 prestigious Suites Cabin seat.  \nAs part of Now Boarding\, there will also be a series of themed pop-up experiences that will happen throughout the year\, including NMS’ very own disco room\, and other complementary programming for everyone. Check in to this exhibition to discover our little red dot anew\, and contemplate on our identities as Singaporeans in an increasingly globalised world.
