SUMMARY:Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities
DESCRIPTION:Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities is the latest special exhibition by Singapore’s Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM)\, and celebrates the Southeast Asian heritage. It features over 100 masterpieces from overseas and local lenders\, as well as rarely seen pieces from the National Collection. \nThe exhibition explores the rich history and culture of batik and batik making\, from its traditional roots to contemporary designs. Visitors are invited to step into an exquisite world of batik textiles that cut across cultures and ethnic backgrounds and explore the dynamic possibilities of batik as fashion through the years. \nIt also introduces innovations by batikers in the age-old craft and showcases how batik charted the evolution of new identities in the newly formed nations of Indonesia\, Malaysia\, and Singapore.

SUMMARY:Second Edition of #SGFASHIONNOW at ACM
DESCRIPTION:The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) unveils the second iteration of #SGFASHIONNOW\, an experimental contemporary fashion showcase where Singapore fashion takes centre stage. The showcase continues ACM’s efforts to engage with the fashion community to further the discussion of what constitutes Singapore fashion through the lens of the nation’s multi-cultural\, cosmopolitan port city heritage. It is presented in collaboration with LASALLE College of the Arts’ (LASALLE) School of Fashion\, and the Textile and Fashion Federation (TaFF) – a result of ACM’s tripartite partnership within Singapore’s fashion ecosystem. \n#SGFASHIONNOW 2022 opens on 8 July and runs till 16 October 2022. In conjunction with the experimental contemporary fashion showcase\, members of the public can look forward to a series of student curator tours\, interactive activities\, and workshops focusing on fashion\, craft\, and design – available online and on-site. SUMMARY:Fashioning Batik by NAFA X BINhouse
DESCRIPTION:This showcase features batik menswear created by students and graduates of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in collaboration with BINhouse. Interpreting tradition\, history\, culture\, and contemporary fashion aesthetics\, the designs are modern\, innovative\, and wearable. \nBINhouse\, a batik powerhouse in Indonesia\, generously provided all the batik fabrics for this collection. Each one speaks to the unique and distinctive BINhouse signature approach to handmade batik. \nWith their individual fortes and styles\, the NAFA designers established their own approaches to working with the BINhouse batiks. Among the designers are an embroidery artist\, a print designer\, a leather smith\, an alternative constructionist\, as well as current students honing their skills in fashion designing.

SUMMARY:The Citizen Creatives by The Local People X Lithium X Project Anew
DESCRIPTION:The Local People are back with their signature Art Market this National Day\, showcasing two upcoming Singaporean initiatives: @itslithium_ and @projanew\, each looking to champion their local scene of art\, fashion and community building social projects.\n\nThings to Do @ The Citizen Creatives :\n+ Local Art Installations in store @itslithium_ by @projanew\n+ Signature Art Market™ at the carpark\n+ Local Musicians\n+ Shop your archival and streetwear clothing needs at @itslithium_\n+ Charity Clothing Booth Drive by @projanew whereby all sales proceeds at the booth are donated to charity\nProject Anew aims to intertwine the act of giving with fashion. A team founded and led by youths aged 21 and below\, we aim to introduce and create interest among fellow youths on topics such as Philanthropy and Sustainability. By creating content that appeals to youths and collaborating with industry partners\, we host biannual events where we aim to raise funds for selected beneficiaries. Established this year in 2022\, we were motivated by the support given to our first drive and are back to bring a bigger and bolder installment to raise funds for charity.\n\nThis joint collaboration hopes to gather and inspire Singaporeans to give back to the community amid the National Day holidays and hone the kampung spirit. Held from 9-14 August alongside TLP and Lithium at 18 Genting Road\, a wider selection of pre-loved clothing kindly donated by our collaborators (and the public) will be on sale. Through our second drive\, we hope to bridge the gap between the importance of supporting fellow Singaporeans and responsible buying.
