DESCRIPTION:From 24 March 2023 \nDaily\, 10am – 7pm | Fridays\, 10am – 9pm \nAsian Civilisations Museum\, Level 3\, Fashion and Textiles Gallery \n  \nThe Asian Civilisations Museum presents Textile Masters to the World: The global desire for Indian cloth with a selection of exquisite garments and textiles at its Fashion and Textiles Gallery. Featuring 27 pieces from the National Collection and loans\, the exhibition spotlights the historic global impact of textile production in India\, and its role as evidence of trade and cultural exchange between India and regions such as the Middle East\, Southeast Asia\, and Europe from the fourteenth to nineteenth century. From fashion and furnishing\, to gift exchange and heirlooms\, visitors can marvel at the artistry and craftsmanship of early textile masters\, and discover how Indian textiles influenced local designs\, materials and fashions wherever they were traded.

SUMMARY:Sound Plot: True/South\, A Collection of Audio Plays
DESCRIPTION:𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗼𝘁: 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲/𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 is a collection of audio plays responding to the geographical area of Tanjong Pagar/Pasir Panjang where the Singapore Art Museum currently resides. With audio design by Artwave Studio\, the plays first premiered as part of Singapore Art Week\, each with an audio spot installation at the museum and now available online as well. \nThe three short audio plays (of which the latter 2 were selected through our Open Call) are: \nSea Song  \nAdvisory: Contains some coarse language \nLaurie and Scott settle into their new expatriate lives at Sentosa Cove only to discover that not all is as it seems. Beneath the ostentatious luxuries of modern Singapore lie the sea and the land seething in their grief; and as Laurie’s connection to them grows she discovers that this loss is collective and communal. \nPlaywright: Joel Tan\nDirector: Cherilyn Woo\nActors: Julie Wee\, Daniel Jenkins\, Ching Shu Yi\, Serene Chen\, Tysha Khan\, Irsyad Dawood\, Joel Tan \nGhazal of the Banana Tree’s Heart \n\n\nA solitary banana tree remains on the shore\, the sole survivor amongst its compatriots\, lost to the need for the space they occupied; a lone banana tree that is the last repository of the stories of those shores – of fishermen\, turtles and the sea itself. SUMMARY:Amazônia
DESCRIPTION:Amazônia is a major exhibition by the award-winning photographer Sebastião Salgado (b. 1944\, Brazil). It spotlights the Amazon region and its ecosystems coming under the threat of deforestation and climate change\, while featuring the voices\, portraits\, and perspectives of the Indigenous communities who live in – and with – the largest rainforest on the planet. \nThis multisensory and immersive exhibition\, curated and designed by Lélia Wanick Salgado\, comprises over 200 photographs\, a soundtrack by Jean-Michel Jarre\, two projection rooms\, video testimonies from Indigenous leaders\, tactile image plates for the visually impaired\, and a space dedicated to Instituto Terra\, the reforestation non-governmental organisation founded by the Salgados. Amazônia powerfully demonstrates the beauty and majesty of the Amazon region\, while issuing an important call to protect and conserve what has been called “the lungs of the world”. \nThe exhibition features photographic artworks with male and female nudity and contains imagery of dead animals. Visitor discretion is advised.
