DESCRIPTION:From 24 March 2023 \nDaily\, 10am – 7pm | Fridays\, 10am – 9pm \nAsian Civilisations Museum\, Level 3\, Fashion and Textiles Gallery \n  \nThe Asian Civilisations Museum presents Textile Masters to the World: The global desire for Indian cloth with a selection of exquisite garments and textiles at its Fashion and Textiles Gallery. Featuring 27 pieces from the National Collection and loans\, the exhibition spotlights the historic global impact of textile production in India\, and its role as evidence of trade and cultural exchange between India and regions such as the Middle East\, Southeast Asia\, and Europe from the fourteenth to nineteenth century. From fashion and furnishing\, to gift exchange and heirlooms\, visitors can marvel at the artistry and craftsmanship of early textile masters\, and discover how Indian textiles influenced local designs\, materials and fashions wherever they were traded.

DESCRIPTION:Embark on a captivating voyage to discover the heritage and culture of the Malayalee community in Singapore with the Indian Heritage Centre’s third community co-curated exhibition\, Ente Veedu\, My Home: Malayalees in Singapore.  \nCo-curated with the Malayalee community in Singapore\, the exhibition features a remarkable collection of over 200 artefacts – ranging from an ornate elephant caparison to a beautifully crafted ivory writing box from the late 18th century. Visitors will get to delve deeper into the second largest sub-group within Singapore’s Indian population\, tracing their journey from the early days of settlement in Singapore to their evolving concept of home and identity in contemporary Singapore.

SUMMARY:Sound Plot: True/South\, A Collection of Audio Plays
DESCRIPTION:𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗼𝘁: 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲/𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 is a collection of audio plays responding to the geographical area of Tanjong Pagar/Pasir Panjang where the Singapore Art Museum currently resides. With audio design by Artwave Studio\, the plays first premiered as part of Singapore Art Week\, each with an audio spot installation at the museum and now available online as well. \nThe three short audio plays (of which the latter 2 were selected through our Open Call) are: \nSea Song  \nAdvisory: Contains some coarse language \nLaurie and Scott settle into their new expatriate lives at Sentosa Cove only to discover that not all is as it seems. SUMMARY:Playing and Becoming
DESCRIPTION:Participatory modes of expanded cinema performances are the focus of Mark Chua and Lam Li Shuen’s residency period. \nPlaying and Becoming is a performance-talk centered around such a participatory mode of live film creation. It explores this as an event of collective action and knowledge circulation\, that fosters the potential of multiplicities through image and sound creation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMark Chua and Lam Li Shuen are a Singaporean filmmaker and artist duo. Working between image and sound\, their works often employs absurdist imagery\, thinking on place\, histories\, and the peculiarity of human desire. Their films have screened at international film festivals including the International Film Festival Rotterdam (2023)\, New Directors/New Films (2023) and BFI London Film Festival (2021). Their short film The Cup received the First Prize (Moving Images) in the Julius Baer Next Generation Art Prize of 2021. They have presented sound work and audiovisual performances at the Kunstraum Walcheturm\, ArtScience Museum and National Museum of Singapore. They have also released multiple albums as the art rock duo ARE.

SUMMARY:2024 Philippine Queer Studies Conference: Call for Papers and Panel Proposals
DESCRIPTION:The 2nd Philippine Queer Studies Conference has launched a call for papers and panel proposals. This year’s theme is “Bridging queer knowledges and desires.” As with its first iteration\, this year’s conference seeks to highlight queer work and scholarship in the country\, and facilitate stronger connections between LGBTQI scholars\, policy makers\, and advocates. It is presented by the University of the Philippines (UP) Center for Women’s and Gender Studies\, co-presented by Babaylanes Inc.\, and UP School of Statistics\, and in partnership with UP Department of Sociology\, UP Babaylan\, and UP Rainbow Research Hub. \nThe 2024 Philippine Queer Studies Conference will be on October 25 to 27 2024\, at the University of the Philippines Diliman Quezon City.  \nAccepted proposals will be notified by 30 June 2024.  \nFor more details click here.
