SUMMARY:WE WILL SLAM YOU WITH OUR WINGS
DESCRIPTION:The future is female – and so is the past\, as depicted by these portraits of girls as unlikely warriors. Together\, they boldly reframe the histories of iconic women through the centuries. \nWE WILL SLAM YOU WITH OUR WINGS is a video and sound installation of seven hanging screens\, representing a series of 19th century imperialistic portraits. An army of young girls aged 8 to 16 each stand in her own frame\, in her own regalia and holding her own stance of power. Joanna Dudley is their mentor\, encouraging the girls to take autonomy over their own voices and to create the world afresh.

SUMMARY:A DAY\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:Discover the intriguing amid the mundane\, in this multidisciplinary installation combining performance and video installation\, reflecting on the nature of time\, space and our everyday relationships. With new discoveries and encounters to engage with on each day\, it invites you to wander through doors and liminal spaces to piece together what lies within\, and how they connect with each other. What different viewers see on different days is just a room\, but as we consider what lies behind the other doors\, and why they can’t be seen\, we experience the same state as in our everyday lives: our anticipation of—and our inability to anticipate—the future.

SUMMARY:SIFA 2023: INTERMISSION
DESCRIPTION:Date: 2 June Friday & 3 June Saturday\nTime: 8pm \nDuration: 1h\, no intermission\nVenue: Drama Centre Black Box\nTickets: $38 \nPerformed in Thai with English surtitles \nTraditional Thai music and contemporary dance practice intertwine to examine the body as a political site and the sociopolitical power of dance. \nStuck in the state-enforced past and unable to see the future of his own country\, director Thanapol Virulhakul proposes Thai postmodern dance as a method to navigate Thailand’s socio-political power structure that infiltrates all areas of a citizen’s life. A single dancing body portrays how political power relates to each individual. \nIn collaboration with the Bangkok International Performing Arts Meeting (BIPAM) and George Town Festival (GTF)\, veteran Thai folk musician Champa Saenprom is reunited with the contemporary dancer Vidura Amranand in a mystical postmodern. Dancer Vidura draws on contemporary dance vocabulary and her practice in dance movement psychotherapy\, while Champa uses traditional song to invoke “Kwan”\, the protective guardian spirit of the human soul. Music and dance come together to dig deep and assert the potential of art as resistance against the powers that be. \nA co-production between BIPAM\, SIFA and GTF. \nImage courtesy of Rueangrith Suntisuk

SUMMARY:A Night with Beethoven: Lucerne Symphony Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:L.V. Beethoven (1770 – 1827)\nViolin Concerto in D Major\, Op. 61\nSymphony No.5\, Op.67 \n  \nMichael Sandeling\, chief conductor\nAugustin Hadelich\, violin \nCall it a glorious twist of fate? It’s only fitting that Switzerland’s oldest orchestra\, founded in 1805\, just when Beethoven was writing his Violin Concerto\, makes its breathtaking Thailand debut playing that same hallmark piece\, as well as what is perhaps the most famous piece of classical music in history\, his dramatic Symphony No. 5. \nProlific in recording but steeped in musical heritage\, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Michael Sanderling who has experience conducting most of Europe’s leading orchestras\, including the Berlin Philharmonic\, the Munich Philharmonic\, and more.
