SUMMARY:PCC Charity Art Jamming with Jamie & Gale
DESCRIPTION:Parkway Cancer Centre commences 18th anniversary celebration with a meaningful charity art jamming session with Ms. Jaime Teo – Miss Universe Singapore 2001 and artist(e)\, and Ms. Gale Choong – PCC Cancer Survivor and artist\, where they will share their transformative and healing journey through art. \nSuitable for the whole family\, ticket is priced at S$15 per person. Art materials and light refreshments will be provided. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Singapore Cancer Society. \n  \nVenue:     Visual Arts Centre\,10 Penang Rd\, #01-02\, Dhoby Ghaut Green\, Singapore 238469 (Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station Exit B) \nDate:        Saturday\, February 24\, 2024 \nTime:        2.00pm – 4.30pm \nTicket:      S$15 nett each. Available at Eventbrite official website. \n  \nArt can harness the healing energy within each of us. It helps with building motor skills and neural connections\, enhances communication through creativity and imagination\, boosts mood and self-esteem\, and most importantly connects with self\, people and community. \nWe all seek connection\, and it is this connection that underpins the meaning of art and healing. \nHealing\, as the word suggests\, is not a destination. It does not have a fixed timeline or pathway that is linear\, nor is it homogeneous. Healing is a journey that comprises different sights\, routes and experiences for different individuals. Just like how each visit to the art museum is a different experience for everyone. \n“As Parkway Cancer Centre turns 18\, we wish to start the year of celebration on a positive and charitable note\,” says Dr Khoo Kei Siong\, Deputy Medical Director and Senior Consultant\, Medical Oncology\, Parkway Cancer Centre. “Together\, we can achieve strength\, hope and vitality to live life to the fullest.” \nFor more information\, please visit Parkway Cancer Centre official website.

SUMMARY:Sound Plot: True/South\, A Collection of Audio Plays
DESCRIPTION:𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗼𝘁: 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲/𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 is a collection of audio plays responding to the geographical area of Tanjong Pagar/Pasir Panjang where the Singapore Art Museum currently resides. With audio design by Artwave Studio\, the plays first premiered as part of Singapore Art Week\, each with an audio spot installation at the museum and now available online as well. \nThe three short audio plays (of which the latter 2 were selected through our Open Call) are: \nSea Song  \nAdvisory: Contains some coarse language \nLaurie and Scott settle into their new expatriate lives at Sentosa Cove only to discover that not all is as it seems. Beneath the ostentatious luxuries of modern Singapore lie the sea and the land seething in their grief; and as Laurie’s connection to them grows she discovers that this loss is collective and communal. \nPlaywright: Joel Tan\nDirector: Cherilyn Woo\nActors: Julie Wee\, Daniel Jenkins\, Ching Shu Yi\, Serene Chen\, Tysha Khan\, Irsyad Dawood\, Joel Tan \nGhazal of the Banana Tree’s Heart \n\n\nA solitary banana tree remains on the shore\, the sole survivor amongst its compatriots\, lost to the need for the space they occupied; a lone banana tree that is the last repository of the stories of those shores – of fishermen\, turtles and the sea itself. Alone it sings the same refrain – but who listens? \nPlaywright: Danial Matin\nDirector: Grace Kalaiselvi\nActors: Suhaili Safari & Shahid Nasheer \nFragments of a Singaporean Hainanese \nAt the opening of a new exhibition on the Hainanese community in Singapore\, memories are excavated through the stories of three Hainanese immigrants of different generations\, their connections to an island they left for another\, and the sea that connects them. \nPlaywright: Wang Liansheng\nDirector: Lim Shien Hian\nActors: Jalyn Han\, Hang Qian Chou\, Rino Junior John\, Mitchell Fang

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: Descendants of the Dragon\, story from the Music Box Museum
DESCRIPTION:Art Exhibition: Descendants of the Dragon\, story from the Music Box Museum\n\nDates: 1 December 2023 -31 January 2024\n\nAddress: Music Box Museum\, 168 Telok Ayer Street\, Singapore\n\nMeet the artist: 9 December\, Sat\, 11am-3pm\, 16 December\, Sat\, 11am-3pm\, 13 January Sat\, 11am-3pm\, 20 January\, Sat\, 11am-3pm\n\nWe are thrilled to introduce you to the enchanting world created by the talented Kazakh-Russian artist\, Inessa Kalabekova\, at the Music Box Museum in Singapore. Inessa’s latest exhibition\, inspired by the ancient Chinese story of the four dragons\, is a captivating fusion of mythical creatures and the whimsical charm of musical boxes.\n\nHere are some highlights:\n\nMythical Geography: The story introduces the “Classic of Mountains and Seas\,” an ancient text dating back to the 4th century BC\, which describes mythical creatures and the origin of Chinese geography. The book explains how the dragons’ kindness in delivering rain led to the creation of four great rivers in China.\n\nCultural Fusion: Inessa Kalabekova’s art is deeply influenced by her Kazakh roots\, which are rich in folk tales\, as well as her multicultural experiences. Her ability to blend different cultural influences and traditions through her artwork showcases her artistic prowess as a world builder.\n\nFamily Involvement: Inessa’s family\, particularly her daughter Alice\, plays a crucial role in her artistic process. They contribute to her storytelling and art creation. The collaborative aspect of her art adds depth and dimension to her work.\nThian Hock Keng Temple and Musical Box Museum: The Thian Hock Keng Temple in Singapore becomes a significant source of inspiration for Inessa. The temple’s intricate architecture and depictions of dragons and phoenixes within its decorations leave a lasting impact on her artistic journey. Adjacent to the temple is the Musical Box Museum\, which hosts ancient music boxes and provides the backdrop for further artistic exploration.\n\nDragon Stories and Portraits: Inessa and her daughter Alice create stories about parallel worlds where spirit creatures\, specifically dragons\, play a significant role. These stories lead to the creation of dragon-themed collages and portraits\, each with its own unique narrative and connection to the realm of dragons.\n\nArtist’s Background: The story provides insights into Inessa Kalabekova’s background\, her artistic journey\, and her academic pursuits\, including her upcoming MFA student exhibition at Central Saint Martins\, offering a glimpse into her career and achievements.

SUMMARY:The Long Gaze: Prints and Ceramics by Chua Chon Hee
DESCRIPTION:🍂 Opening with the artist in attendance is on Saturday\, 28 October 2023\, 3 – 5pm. All are welcome! \nAC43 Gallery is proud to present the latest solo exhibition of local multidisciplinary artist Chua Chon Hee. The exhibition features a selection of 25 monotype prints accomplished by the artist between 2013 – 2023 and 8 newly-completed ceramic sculptures. \nThe Long Gaze invites audience to dwell in the meditative yet experimental world of Chon Hee’s artistic quest. Her monotype prints thrive on a meaningful collision of shapes and textures\, with some works featuring the contemplative incorporation of actual leaf forms as bled through her press. Parts of their distinct shapes\, organic protrusions and sinewy veins disintegrate and metamorphose into fluid marks and painterly gestures on paper\, imbuing her prints with a spontaneous sense of nature in transformation. \nThis reverence for nature is similarly translated in Chon Hee’s approach with ceramic sculptures. She often utilises a mix of locally-sourced earth as her material\, and strives for earthy tones and natural lines during her throwing and the firing process in her own kilns. These ceramics will be situated in conversation with a series of drawings that capture her observations of natural botanical forms\, of which some found their ways into the\nexpressive qualities of her sculptures. \nAbout the Artist🎨 \nChua Chon Hee (b. 1960\, Singapore) graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts with an Advanced Diploma in Western Art in 1982. She is a fine arts educator and a multidisciplinary artist\, and works extensively with printmaking\, ink\, seal-carving\, and ceramic work. Her artistic expressions are formally inspired by the organic and quiet dynamism of nature\, and spiritually rooted in the Buddhist philosophy of ‘The Four Kalpas’ (成住坏空): the cycle of formation\, the cycle of continuance\, the cycle of decline\, and the cycle of disintegration.

SUMMARY:DONDANG DONGENG
DESCRIPTION:Step into a world of enchantment and wonder as we invite you to experience an extraordinary retelling of Malaysian folklore in songs\, specially curated for children of all ages. Delve into the rich tapestry of our cultural heritage and embark on an unforgettable adventure that will ignite imaginations and foster a love for our vibrant folklore. \nThe origins of Dondang Dongeng began with a simple question; Do Malaysians\, especially kids\, still know of our local folklores? While many of us grew up listening to the tales and songs of Disney\, dreaming to be part of that world\, did we still remember to find our way home and remember our own stories. \nDondang Dongeng is a quest in sharing the stories of treasured Malaysian folklore like the smart and mischievous Sang Kancil and legends of beautiful local princesses complete with important morals to take away\, as we pass down these narratives\, but in our own way. In songs and tunes\, in celebration of our traditions. Of who we are\, our past\, our present and our future.  \nHelmed by a team of esteemed creatives such as Irena Taib\, composer and member of The Impatient Sisters; Mia Palencia\, renowned singer and songwriter; Melina William\, musician and producer and other local talents that are highly sought-after in the music scene\, Dondang Dongeng is craftily weaved into a dreamscape\, filled with stories less remembered but hopefully not long forgotten. Stories as old as time\, presented in the form of songs with a modern twist. \nLet the songs awaken these folklores again. And let’s journey into this dreamscape together! If we continue to tell these stories\, we might realise that we all share common narratives and that will lead us to the way home.
