The exhibition features 11 limited edition designs crafted from stainless steel and in the typology of everyday interior objects: sofa\, lounger\, chair\, bar stool\, standing screen\, and vase. Sculptural\, sleek and thought-provoking in shapes and polished to a mirror finish\, these works overturn conventional expectations of industrial design and push the symbiotic interdependence between form and functionality of such objects beyond their familiar material and presence. \nThe marriage of art and industrial design is an artistic process well explored in the creative world. Ushered in by the likes of Western artists such as Donald Judd\, John Chamberlain and Dan Flavin\, who opened up a new entire visual vocabulary since the 1960s\, this practice has continued to inform contemporary currents of art and industrial expressions in myriad ways. In Singapore\, however\, this remains a niche exploration and an undercelebrated creative practice. With his exceptional background in design and craftsmanship\, Nathan’s interest in challenging and bridging the formal expressions of art and object design has been at the forefront of his exploration with industrial materials over the decades. Being and Nothingness – A Discourse on Identity showcases Nathan’s latest series of work\, through which he examines the relationships surrounding material design\, space and identity. \nIn the realm of Singaporean artistry\, the choice of stainless steel pipes and sheets as a medium carries profound symbolism\, reflecting the cultural and societal ethos of the nation. This medium\, inherently sleek and efficient\, evokes a paradoxical narrative\, oscillating between cleanliness and coldness\, efficiency and a lack of warmth. Just as polished stainless steel mirrors its surroundings\, there is a reflection of Singapore’s societal fabric where efficiency often prevails\, but at times\, individual identity can feel overshadowed. Singapore\, a city-state known for its modernity and progress\, is often portrayed through the lens of efficiency and cleanliness. The use of stainless steel as an artistic medium echoes these themes\, embodying the precision and orderliness that define the cityscape. The smooth\, unblemished surfaces of stainless steel pipes and sheets represent the meticulous planning and execution characteristic of Singapore’s urban development. \nHowever\, beneath this surface of efficiency sits a deeper narrative. The coldness of stainless steel speaks to the potential loss of individual identity in a society that prioritises uniformity and conformity. Just as the reflective nature of polished stainless steel can obscure its own identity in favour of mirroring its surroundings\, individuals may find themselves caught in a similar predicament\, striving for perfection and assimilation while grappling with the erosion of personal distinctiveness. \nYet\, there is a poignant beauty in this reflection. The mirrored surfaces of stainless steel invite contemplation\, prompting viewers to question their own roles within the societal framework. The interplay between the material’s reflective qualities and its inherent lack of warmth challenges us to seek balance between efficiency and human connection\, between order and individuality. \nUltimately\, the symbolism of stainless steel in Singaporean artistry serves as a microcosm of the city-state itself— a place where efficiency and progress coexist with the complexities of human experience. It reminds us that beneath the gleaming facade of modernity\, there are nuanced narratives waiting to be discovered and expressed\, inviting us to reflect on our own identities within the ever-evolving tapestry of Singaporean society.

Participants will have the opportunity to shoot with black and white film\, and work in a darkroom at Objectifs. DESCRIPTION:Apply by Mon 30 Sep 2024 (2359H) \nThe Young Photographers’ Mentorship Programme (YPMP) aims to develop the artistic voice and ambitions of young photographers. This three-week long mentorship programme encourages them to explore and experiment with image-based work\, and deepen their understanding of the creative and professional possibilities in photography. The programme was formerly known as the Shooting Home Youth Awards. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to learn from some of the region’s foremost visual storytellers as mentors and guest lecturers. Topics covered include how to develop a personal photographic practice\, professional and ethical considerations\, and exhibition making. They will work towards completing one photo project\, which will be presented at Objectifs in the form of an open studio at the end of the programme. \nYPMP is open to Singapore-based photographers aged 15 to 23 years old. \nOnly 12 participants will be selected for this programme. DESCRIPTION:Sound Plot is Centre 42’s audio plays series\, each edition drawing on a certain geographic area in Singapore. This edition\, produced in collaboration with the NTU Museum\, zooms in on Jurong West and its surrounding area\, where the university is located. \nThis is an invitation for two writers to respond through audio drama to this fascinating area\, guided by the curatorial prompt “Ulu”. Selected writers will need to be available for an intensive 3-week script development phase in October 2024\, and will work with a director during the recording and production process in November & December 2024. Audio production will be done in collaboration with Artwave Studio\, and slated for release online in January 2025. \nThis is a paid opportunity\, and commissioned writers will receive $1\,000 each. \n\n\n\n\nTO APPLY\n\n\n\n\nApplication period runs from 5 August 2024 (12pm) to 15 September 2024 (12pm). Here thrum large swathes of undeveloped secondary forest\, rewilding over the memories of the gambier plantations that kickstarted Singapore’s endless development. Here\, the coast hugs the mouth of the Straits of Johor\, where we can still imagine our deep connections to ancient kingdoms. Here lies a large university town\, filled with utopian architecture that tells a story about a world that could be so much better and kinder to the earth. And here lie the hopes and dreams of new families looking to build lives in one of the fastest-growing residential zones on the island\, each built-to-order flat remaking the “ulu” face of the Western region. \nWe invite you to write a play that reckons in any way with these ideas. They are one of the area’s oldest indigenous residents. The tribe has a deep spiritual and emotional connection to the land from years of living in and managing the forest\, with the frankincense tree occupying a special place in their folklore and beliefs. Aside for using the land for farming and gathering\, they harvest the fragrant resin of frankincense trees\, a practice that has been in place for generations. \nThe tribe’s ancestral lands have slowly been encroached upon by eucalyptus plantations established by a major company that pulps eucalyptus trees for industrial purposes. DESCRIPTION:ITSLIQUID Group\, in collaboration with ACIT Venice – Italian-German Cultural Association\, is pleased to announce the open call for ANIMA MUNDI 2024\, an international exhibition of photography\, painting\, video art\, installation/sculpture\, and performance art\, that will be held in Venice\, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello and in other prestigious venues and historical buildings\, from April to June 2024\, during the 60th Venice Biennale of Art. \nThe last edition of ANIMA MUNDI took place in Venice in 2022\, presenting a great selection of more than 500 art works realized by 250 artists\, coming from 40 countries. The festival focuses on the concept of ANIMA MUNDI\, which according to several historical cultures\, religions and philosophical systems\, is an intrinsic connection between all living entities on the planet\, which relates to the world in a similar way as the human soul is connected to the human body. \nPlato expressed his thought about the ANIMA MUNDI in the Timaeus\, “this world is indeed a living being endowed with a soul and intelligence… a single visible living entity containing all other living entities\, which by their nature are all related”.

SUMMARY:2025 Taoyuan International Art Award
DESCRIPTION:The open call for submissions to the third “2025 Taoyuan International Art Award”\, organized by the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts (TMoFA)\, will take place from April 1 to 26\, 2024. This Award is for new works presented publicly for the first time and which have never entered government-organized competitions in Taiwan. Artists may participate as an individual or a group regardless of nationality or age. For the full prospectus\, please visit the official website of Taoyuan International Art Award at (tmofa-tiaa.com). \n  \nThe predecessor to the “Taoyuan International Art Award” was the Taoyuan Contemporary Art Award\, which has been one of the most significant contemporary art competitions in Taiwan since 2001. In 2020\, the Taoyuan Contemporary Art Award rebranded itself and launched the first “2021 Taoyuan International Art Award”. The Award is now to be held every two years\, with an international jury. The scope of open call has also now been extended globally\, thereby strengthening international exchanges and laying a solid foundation for artistic research and creation. For this edition\, the Grand Prize winner receives NT$600\,000\, and three Honorable Mention winners each receives NT$200\,000. In addition\, a Sojourn Award of NT$350\,000 will be offered to a Taiwanese artist for a tour abroad to inspire creations and cultivate artistic talents. \n  \nThis year’s international jury is convened by Lijuan WANG\, Acting Director of TMoFA\, and the preliminary review will be conducted by Abby CHEN\, Head of Contemporary Art Department at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco; Reuben KEEHAN\, Curator\, Contemporary Asian Art at Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art; Sunjung KIM\, Artistic Director of Art Sonje Center\, Seoul\, South Korea; Po-Wei WANG\, Artistic Director of Digital Art Foundation\, Taiwan; and Pei-Yi LU\, Associate Professor at National Taipei University of Education\, Taiwan. \n  \nAbout Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts (TMoFA) \n  \n“Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts” (TMoFA) is a government organization running multiple venues. In addition to the main venue of TMoFA currently under construction in Qingpu\, Zhongli District\, Taoyuan City\, there is also the “Hengshan Calligraphy Art Center”\, which opened in October 2021 and is devoted to contemporary calligraphy art. Meanwhile the “Taoyuan Children’s Art Center”\, which will open in April 2024\, targets family audiences and aims to promote the development of art and aesthetic education. TMoFA has been warming up for future operations through various art projects. In concord with the surrounding natural environment and community\, the construction of the main venue is jointly developed by “Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop” (Japan) and “Joe Shih Architects” (Taiwan) under the design concept of “The Hill”. DESCRIPTION:Back again for the Thailand Aquascaping Art Fair 2024 by MMAD – MunMun Art Destination together with Thailand’s leading aquatic plant community group\, bringing over 100 aquariums of various types for those interested to view along with special activities\, such as water tank competitions\, workshops\, shops and many other activities. \nAquascape is the art of simulating landscapes on land and the world of imagination into an underwater world\, by carefully combining various aquatic plants\, logs\, rocks\, and small aquatic animals to create a simulated landscape in a small glass tank\, or what we are familiar with as an aquarium or underwater garden. Today\, Aquascape has been divided into many branches of aquarium arrangement. The Thailand Aquascaping Art Fair 2024 has brought 2 types for fans of such art to see:\n1. Aquarium or a simulation of the landscape in a glass tank filled with water\, or what we call an underwater garden.\n2.
